try some shields with different spears: ashwood pike, war spear, red tassel spear
if you want a 1h as side arm, get some fast one due to low wpf

alternative is 15/24, but imo it is to low str with lvl 30. corsair got 15/27 afaik, but his speed bonus is doing the damage for him (hes lvl 35 tho)

If you want to go high lvl, I would suggest 21/21 at lvl 33 or stay at 18/21 and try to max shield/IF.

Why do I need 1h if im going polearm hoplite?

Because you should carry a 1h as a backup weapon, hoplite a are a support class, with only 1d attack and a long weapon that isn't useful in tight quarters.

Of course you can go pure pole hoplite, and grab a 4d pole like the shortened spear

Why do I need 1h if im going polearm hoplite?

Cuz the new patch want YOU TO DO THAT!!
It gives you 17 and 16 bonus wpf in 1h and polearm. And having an 1h sideweapon with high wpf is wonderful.

(Or you can just go 170 polearm wpf, that's also ok )

You should try fighting without shield but with an 2d polearm like awlpike, ashwood pike

when you are good enough with this you can try to be pure hoplite.
Also War Spear is 4d and got a high speed. I tried 21/18 with my STF yesterday and with a war spear. worked fine for me and you can just switch from 1d holpite to 4d polearm spammer
