3d Gaming glasses for PC have been around for years... I remember finding out about them in 2005 or earlier, well before the 3d tv's starting hitting the market.

The ones I saw back then instead of displaying 2 images of the same thing side by side... They made the computer/monitor display 2 of the same images on layered on top of each other but slightly overlapping, and I think there was a shutter speed (could be wrong ago it was years when I read up on the ones I'm remembering) on the glasses that made it so that each lens piece on the glasses picked up a different set of the same image. Worked with any monitor and any game, as long as you computer could handle displaying double displays on the same monitor. I recall them costing around 100-200$ but they never really caught on.

I wonder how those ones stack up against these ones. It looks kind of like the ones you posted (side by side) images cuts your resolution/display down as if you were playing splitscreen... that's kind of a deal breaker for me.

The images are not actually overlapping. They are displayed one after the other, but you can't see that because of the fast refresh rate. The problem with these shutter technologies is that there is noticeable ghosting around all objects, which gets stronger the further apart you set the images horizontally (you can control the depth effect with this).

I think those technologies are doomed to die anyway, because of oculus rift.

Iyin3D is around 20 dollars, it seems to be much simplified  in technology. It's the more simplified version of the shutter speed glasses. It uses regular lenses. Kind of like prisms but different. I have Nvidia which use shutter speed. Nvidia flickers a lot and it's very dim. Iyin3D is much more simple.
LOL you can't beat this for 20 dollars. You can either buy this for 20 that's clear. Or these others with red and blue for 20 dollars: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trC8FH7SEHo

Actually the ghosting is canceled with the goggles and the price tag is around 20 dollars. This is something people can buy a long side oculus rift. You can use it on Desktops, Laptops, Tables, and smart phone. Also, it's not just for gaming. You can watch youtube with this type of Technology.

Look at the BLOG. He says it all.

I was talking about the shutter glasses Sir_Hans was referring to.
