well i heard god mode was one of the worst games to come out in the last year. apparently it has terrible shooting mechanics and mind numbingly monotonous gameplay.

For 5€ it is a fine game, 12€ for a 4-pack, 100% worth it for some LAN fun or just having a quick blast with a few friends. It seems most challenging when playing only as two though (might be some scaling issue).
I wouldn't pay more than 10€ for the game though normally.

There are negatives with it, but as I wrote for 5€ I can totally ignore those;

It isn't something you can play 24/7, of course, it only has a few maps, not THAT much customization sadly, plus the only change in experience is the buffs/debuffs that randomize at every shrine. Which though can completely change the gameplay.

Mindless, headless shooting. Serious Sam in third person, but with worse mechanics (bit too much console garbage over the controls/settings).

Fine game, though in total very lackluster and could have been way more.

Fallout NV looks like a good deal for anyone who doesn't have it (I'd recommend playing it).

Otherwise not much there interests me.  I didn't think the Walking Dead game was that good, it was okay.

Overall my thoughts about the sales are "meh."  What's up with all the shitty looking indie games that are coming out nowadays?  Don't they realize that 8 bit games were a necessity in 1985.  But 27/28 years later, not so much.  Only a few NES games are still worth playing these days.  And I don't see these new platformer/shit graphics games being worth my time or money.

Limbo, Deadlight, The Swapper... all great platformers for no money

Deals on Fallout 3 and New Vegas, Bioshock, Dead Space, Left for Dead, Sleeping Dogs, Both Amnesias, Penumbra, Both Darksiders... all that for less than 5-10 euros/dolars each..

Just because you got a full Steam library and bought pretty much everything you're interested in doesn't mean there aren't many geat deals for the people that don't have a big library or are new to Steam
And now he can't play because of "common sense" and he doesn't understand how this common sense works

Didn't see that bioshock deal. Just grabbed it. That's a steal indeed.

I still have a ton of games I need to finish but.. might as well put it on the backlog.

Because gaming is all about graphics. Best you stay with your GTA.

As someone who loves crpg and Warband (and played Ultima Online far after there were better graphics games) and counter-strike religiously from beta's til 2008'ish...no, graphics really don't mean shit to me. But when you have shit graphics and scrolling platform games that resemble games from 1985, I just don't get it. Wish these indy dev's would put some more effort into their games.  It it appears as if that trend is catching on.  Reminds me of the shitty MMORPG trend that we've had for the past 10 years or so.  Hope that's not what the indy genre will turn into.

Why do you care? If people want to play these types of games let them. There are plenty who never were a part of the early console/gaming days due to not being born :P

Because it sets trends (bad trends!).  If you want to play shitty 8 bit platform games that capture your attention for 30 minutes, pirate an NES emulator and buy a $20 NES USB controller and play it like you're supposed to.

So which of those games were especially shitty? Have you even played any of them? There are probably bad ones, but I have played a few that were pretty good. The best thing about them was that they did something that an AAA title would never do: dare to try something new. It wasn't always in the gameplay (Faster Than Light), sometimes it's just the mood of the game (Limbo), an unusual setting (The Binding of Isaac), the story that is told (To the moon), but sometimes, it's everything (Braid).

And seriously, if you ever have two dollars to spare, and Intrusion 2 is 75% off, you should try it. It's one of those 8bit platformers, but it's great. Short, but intense.

I agree that they are mostly overpriced, though. Not ready to shell out close to 20 dollars for a game that lasts for 5 hours. But a few dollars for a 5h break from the commercially streamlined standardware is a good deal IMO.

I tend to agree. Not only that, but indie developers by their very nature can't start with a AAA title that includes every bell and whistle (that includes the very expensive Art). They have a limited development team and limited funds. Their goal is to make a fun game, build a resume, and hopefully get some funding along the way (including a little bit of profit). I'm happy to see that the problem on Steam is wading through a bunch of games that may not be the highest of quality, but brings the opportunity for a fresh take on the genre for a few bucks, rather than looking at the same old titles at $59.99.

If you look at all the games that were made, there's very little link between game budget and game overall quality.
