<-- Glorious avatar, courtesy of Gurnisson. I always disliked grinding and was originally a native player so I got used to playing around with a lot of different weapons for different situations. Always tried to make hybrids work (usually 1h/2h hybrids) but in the end it just felt like I was gimping myself, so I didn't have the motivation to get higher level. For example, it always annoyed me that shields are heavier in cRPG compaired to native, more realistic perhaps but it's still an annoying factor. Eventually I respeced to some dedicated class, but ended up bored of only using one weapon type.  Versatility is both my ally and enemy. :(

I've used alt characters, but I wanted at least one high level chacter so I preferred to play on my main. At times I've also had the mindset that I could just respec when I get bored.

Nowadays I care less about performance, so I play what I think is fun. I've settled on a pretty shitty 21/15 1h/2h build, that will be a 21/18 on lvl 31. Still only generation 4. Glorious.

A few times at level 31, couldn't be arsed to grind to 30 again, could never be arsed to grind even to level 32. How you guys have the will to grind to 33+ on the same build without getting bored is beyond me.

I got into a really bad habit of respeccing when i retired at 33, it was like an addiction, i would get bored of the build and then respec 2-3 times a day and would stay around the lvl 24 mark, but i would always find myself coming back to the same build, polearmer. So i thought i would just stick with that, now im half way through 31.

I think i could have made it to 35 retired and made it back to 35 with the amount of times i respecced.

ive respec'ed 3 times on my main (archer > melee > melee) the most recent respec was when i was level 34

ive retired 7 times on main (before we could transfer loom-points)

on alts i have no count, not cus im a respec addict but i just dont remember how many times ive respec'ed. i dont really care about respec'ing on alts below lvl 31

i think its sad that so many ppl seem to respec and burn away the time they spend grinding. i think that more ppl should use alts for retire'ing and respec'ing and then have a main character with a class they prefer to play overall. if main become boring to play, dont respec, just hop on an alt and grind on that for a while. eventually you will want to play your preferred class and then its nice to have a character above lvl 31 with the attribs :) also, since you can transfer loom-points now, i fail to see the logic in retire with main. use alts to grind loom-points.

some ppl will argue that with many gens it will be faster to gain the 31+ levels but i sort of disagree: it may be abit faster but it will also be more boring. playing highlevel character will always be more fun IMO :) and as you grind the 31+ levels you will also earn gold, goild that you eventually can spend buying loom-points or loomed items.

If you find yourself getting bored with playing one class you should just level alts. Getting to level 30 doesn't take all that long, especially now that you can switch Strat characters. If you are a good player you can probably sweet talk someone into accepting you at level 25. I currently have 4 characters that are above level 31. A 21/21 level 35 polearmer, a 21/21 level 32 2h, a 26/15 level 31 lance cav and a 24/17 level 31 swashbuckler.

This doesn't even take that much time and if you just play siege you can compete quite well from level 20-30. 4 of these characters combined with a big armoury gives me such a wealth of builds I can play that I never even touch my STF anymore. Respeccing made a lot of sense when characters were still very restricted, but with the wealth of options like stf and alts you have now, I think you are rather stupid for doing it. Having high level characters is so awesome.

Did it twice on lvl 34 and I am close to lvl 34 again, so ehm about time I guess. Havn't retired since spring 2011.. Additionally I wasted like 1.000.000 on trading.

Respecced quite a lot in recent 6 months. From lvl 33 shielder to archer, from 32 archer to 2h ninja, from 34 ninja to shielder, from 33 shielder to archer, from 33 archer to polearm ninja and from 33 ninja to shielder which I am right now.
Gonna stop it now.

recently respecced on 33, now im 33 again and wondering if I would respec again to get 4 shieldskill instead of 6 which leaves me points to get 5 riding at lvl 34 instead of 35

16 respecs with main (some from 31+ levels), only few to switch class and usually have switched back to polearms quite fast. Most of them are switching between agi, balanced and str pole builds. Now I have learned and have started to level up a second polearm char. Also have some semi-high level alts, which hopefully makes me stop respeccing.

Speaking for myself, I simply like having different types of weapons available with one character, but I was never satisfied with its effectiveness. Of course, if I cared less about min/maxing and had more patience back in the day I'd be a high level hybrid now, which would work out a lot better. But yeah, respeccing regularly is stupid. Sign of an addict with short attention span.

Anyway, STF is good enough for me for those impulsive troll builds. I do have a leveled archer and lancer, but never play them becuase melee is much more enjoyable. Not to mention I don't want to add to that player base since I know it's not fun as melee to play against overwhelming ranged/cavalry teams.

There is no logical reason for respecing if you arent going high level.

After many retirements I found that making alts is a lot better than respecing or retiring; you are bound to get tired of your build (or the game; and then blame it on your build) at some point, so make an alt instead because you'll get tired of that build sometime again and by then it will be time to return to your previous build or make a new alt :D

Used it once, below level 30, because of a fail build.

I've got 4 alts that i play, so whenever i get bored of one class, i'll play another character.
I also already know what kind of builds i like and favored, so i don't need to respec. I have fun with my current ones.

And if i want to change, i'll just retire. I miss the peasant days, so retiring just allow me to have some fun as a real peasant.
