Growing daily, and every person I know that has picked it up, including those who have been jaded to MMORPG's for the last 5 years or so, are addicted and playing nightly to the exclusion of what they were playing every night before.

i heard that this game was an epic fail upon release because they had servers down all the time.

i still do not approve of final fantasy mmo though. ff has nothing to do with this genre.

if you take away story from final fantasy, why to play it?

That seems to be a recurrent mantra among the players that never got their hands on the FF games with decent combat systems aka 1 to 6 and 10.

combat is fun only for so long. the main reason why to play any ff game is by far story and characters.

edit: of course thsi wont stop some people from playing this and doing the same thing over and over and over. mmos are just repetitive, and the lack of any story and character development makes it all worse.

This is FFXIV: A Realm Reborn, the biggest successful relaunch of an MMO in history. Yes, the intial launch failed. Square Enix took it down, went back to work, and has released not only a better version of the original, but a better MMORPG than has been released in nearly a decade. And it is chock FULL of story with hundreds of cut scenes. In fact, when you run your first class, I recommend that you do not take ANY side quests. The main storyline is plenty for leveling and it makes you feel like an important part of the world at large. NPC's recognize you from your accomplishments and those that don't sometimes leave you wanting to say "You want me to do what? Bitch, do you not know who the fuck I am? I'm the motherfucking Ifrit Bane! You really think I have time for your little errand? Oh...you do....<sigh>...okay, where is this place at again?" Leave those side quests for your additional classes later after you have finished the main storyline on your first class. And yes, first class not Alt. Your class is determined by the battle and crafting guilds you join and then you switch to that class by switching your primary weapon. Additionally you have certain class jobs you can take once you get to certain levels of 2 different classes. For example, I'm getting my Conjurer to 30, then going Arcanist to 15 so I can become a White Mage which pulls from both classes, but gets some job specific abilities as well. Oh yeah, you may not want to take a crafting profession. You start with one, then next thing you know you have 4 of them and haven't done any fighting for the last 3 days because you've been too busy gathering and making things

You flat out don't have any clue as to what you are talking about here.

just watched the gameplay video.

dont take me wrong, but this game is just a blantant ripoff of wow with different artstyle [not SO different] and final fantasy 14 slapped in.
you would think that they would make it at least similar to earlier final fantasy games in terms of combat, or at least give you some Action Points which you use for running and attacking when in combat to make it more strategic, but no.

they just went with: click on this and watch it die. use a skill sometimes.

this is exactly why i hate mmos. look if you are going to make an mmo from strategic turn based rpg, at least make it bit like it.

Umm, it does. It is also very strategic, even in the earliest fights. Don't pay attention or use a proper strategy and you are done. You can't just stand in place as a healer and spam heals. You can't just target a mob and auto-attack as a tank. You can't just stand back and nuke as a DPS. And with the class system, every healer can also be DPS and every other role can be a different one when the situation demands.

You do know WoW is just a "ripoff" of every MMORPG that came before it right? And then a "ripoff" of every game after it that had a unique idea, right? You do know this? There is a reason that the word "genre" exists.

Seriously, not trying to be mean to you or even defend everything about the game, because there are complaints I could make that are really of little consequence, but you haven't played it so quit trying to tell people what it is, because it is evident every time you post that you really don't know.
