some buckler love

So, with the latest patches my mighty buckler shrank a bit more and gained some weight, but i donĀ“t care about that (for now).

My current problem is the new requirement, it does not fit to the steel shield progression anymore.
Now, you need shield skill 5 and in return you got a shield that offers less protection, less durability and more maintenance costs than the lower tier steel shield.

It is still CRAZY fast though. With 98 speed rating the only other shield that comes close to same decency is the Knightly Heater Shield, which has half the armour but twice the hitpoints for twice the weight.

I'm yet to see a buckler-fighter die before the shield breaks, unless fouling up, and they usually wade through enemies, leaving a trail of corpses behind.

The spped does not matter that much, and you still can block (uhh there is another magical force field) faster without a shield.
But this does not change the problem:
-with the plate covered shield
skill 4
resistance 61
hp 178
size 62
speed 75
prize 4156

i still have a bit slower but overall better and cheaper shield, than with the buckler
skill 5
resistance 62
hp 118
size 4
speed 98
prize 6912

The buckler is basically an auto-block feature for 1H users. Yes, a big shield is overall more useful, but a bucklers lets you duel as fast as without a shield.
Like in real life, on the battlefield you are better off with a proper shield. If you duel, the buckler is better.

I understand your complain that it become worst, but this is for balance issues, the buckler still the best.
I use it and I can say, I'm a LOT faster to deliver the blow now, that I weight 3w less.
Its a lot easier to duel.

I would NEVER use a 8w shield like the Plate Covered, weight waaay too much, rather use the Knightly Heater Shield instead (against ranged).

And the requirement does still not fit. It is the worst but you have to invest more skillpoints than for the second best.

Bucklers deserve to be nerfed to death, period.

I'm sorry, don't use that Mala, it makes you a bad person.

Why should they be nerfed? They are niche items, they were never overused, and frankly, if you move your feet a little, you can strike past them pretty easily. half a year ago, they deserved a nerf, when they caught arrows way out of the range of the model coverage, but these times are long past...

agreed.

Reduce the shield skill required (bucklers were civilian shields historically) and increase the speed of the shield.
So with PT >10 stones become simple too effective

Have to say that does look quite unfair. Especially since shieldbreakers eat through it faster as well.
Agreed.

lol buckler

How can someone say that is OP? I've never seen a buckler and though to myself "oh shit a buckler"
they more are like an easy kill?
Also, I have declared myself #1 NA hybrid thrower
Formerly known as Marathon.
As an NA admin, I am the most laid back and concerned with the ~fun of the game~ above all other factors. I've also been super inactive since Summer 2012. University takes most of my time, but I still find some time to play when i can.

What are the best shields for you? And why?
Currently there are none.
I was looking for a smaller, durable shield.
At first i used the elite cav shield, it looks nice and has a good size, but it hardly last a whole battle, even swords can destroy it.
Then i switched to the steel shield, offers good protection but has a huge block delay, so you need a but more than skill 6.
Later they added the buckler and the archer cries of rage began (yes, i had a high shield skill, so i could catch a lot of arrows, but at the same time nearly to no powerstrike)

Yeah, i could ake the easy way and equip a huscarl, but that one looks butt ugly.
So my current stopgap is the heavy round (as huscarl of the poor, but it is too huges as well) and the plate covered (as steel shield light).
