So, does anyone have any suggestions on good open world games? Age/graphics don't matter. Preferred types: RPG, survival, exploration.
Been browsing around the web for these types (again), there's isn't a lot of them. Just wondering if I missed some.

If you can look past the graphics and the flaws, it's fun for a day or two:

Been wanting to try this for a while, have read a few comments saying that it's a bit grindy aka standing there while you chop wood or gather and so.

Miasmata, steam greenlight game.

What worries me about this one is that it has a story and an end, thus low replay value. Not sure if worth it even with the discount.

Kenshi?

Got this one already, not a bad game, but you can feel it's alpha, so it still needs work. Haven't played in a while.

I imagine a modded STALKER (either one of the three games) fills this role. Also Boiling Point: Road to Hell, i think. Both are FPSes.

TES
Gothic 1, 2
Risen 1, 2
Siege of Avalon 1 - 6 (Chapters!)
Arcanum
Ultima (Ultima 9: Ascension)
Sacred (1 !, + Underworld)

But I guess you mean games where you really can go anywhere? Gothic for example is a bit limited of course, cause you follow the story line as in most RPGs.
Arcanum has a story line but there are many side quests you can do from a certain point of the game. You can visit different places, you will just need a certain level and decent equipment to survive, otherwise it's quite possible to visit most places and not a must to follow the story line everytime.

This is a really interesting topic!

It's not to bad. No where near as grindy as minecraft and other similar ideas. I played it whilst I was in India on my lap top just for fun. Didn't take me particularly long to complete the story and it's free so can't complain.

X3TC. Easily. I've sunk the last half of my summer playing that damn game and I still haven't gotten around to really finishing any plots. I just go around expanding my fleet and getting ready to murder everyone...but never really get around to it.

(Think Mount n blade in space. A lot more micro though)

If you go for Gothic 1 or 2, don't forget to check out mods.
There are quite a lot available, some with a total new story, some with additions.
Sadly there is mostly only a German version of it, but you might be lucky.

Anyway some recommendations:

Gothic 1:
     Welt der Verurteilten

Gothic 2:
     VarusBiker Edition
     Minimod Balance

And my favourite mod for Gothic 2:
The Returning

It adds a new chapter, brings back our beloved "Sektenspinner" (sect) guild and is more difficult.
Sadly it's a Russian mod, and there is no proper English translation.
If you check out the link above, there is a link for a PseudoEnglishPatch, which includes a horrible english translation.

For us lucky people, who understand the German Language, a mod-team translated and fixed all bugs.
Check it out, if you haven't already.

P.S: Sorry to kinda go off-topic, but there is no proper Gothic thread :P

risen 2 is not something id recommend, not exactly a good game.
