actually, they are deciededly givening us lots of content for free.(seleucids, Greek states for preorder, and Pontus), making us pay for expansions into entirely new areas(barbarian heavy, plus game content). Won't be surprised if they come up with an alexanders conquests, or scenarios(similar to the Rise/Fall method they chose) for this.

Considering they already said that they weren't going to focus on multiplayer, why would I need to buy unit packs just for pvp? Though if I were to pirate a total war game, this one would probably be it.

I just hope it isn't like empire with the bugs or shogun with the multi campaign desyncs.

I also hate DLC shit, espacially if they are day one.

But I want to help the stategy genre itself by buying the game, because game developers and publishers focus on shit-COD clones to squeeze as much money as possible out of the new gamer generation. They consider stategy games as a loss of money.. which is true, thanks to the popularity of consoles.
This is very sad in my opinion and I favor a Total War with shitty day one DLCs over the message "sorry no total war anymore. We will do generic action games for all platforms now".

I don't like the approach of CA, but there are almost no games out there without day one DLCs and pre order-shit.

Naught Dog is making DLC for their super awesome game "The Last of Us" but it's not due for release for another few months. I have no problem with DLC or a company releasing a full game and then releasing DLC's along way down the line.

CIV V is a good example of pretty decent DLC releases. Some were just shit but others were genuine improvements to the game.

Now what CA do, which is just utter cuntish behavior. Is they put the game out, all the factions are there, just sitting there ready to go. You can fight them but not play them. Then they put out a DLC that basically is just "1" because all it fucking does is switch the option that read

Faction x playable = 0

to

Faction x playable = 1

... Are you fucking joking CA you pack of dirt bag shit headed child rapist mother fuckers? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME! IS THIS SOME HUGE JOKE THAT I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND? I mean I may still end up pirating this if my dodgy purchase doesn't go through, so I don't say this from a high horse. but CA seem like one of the few good PC developers left who aren't completely corrupt or gone for console $$$ (blizzard/crytek/etc.).

day 1 DLC is lame, but in this case I really don't think its AS bad as other games because A) its free if you pre order B) its not alot or important content C) they are doing free DLC aswell

day 1 dlc was more of a big deal when its shit like ME3 with important chunks of core content. I don't think you really have any right to hate on CA, plus what was wrong with shogun 2? I didnt buy it but its an amazing game.

Should get for free? By who's definition. We only say that NOW because we know it's DLC. But I don't hear anyone complaining about Medieval:T otal War, where there was 20 factions and like 5 were from an expansion introduced later.

Same kinda thing here. You get, essentially, 5 factions(known) for free, by preordering (BONUS for those who buy early. Games, for a long time have done this stuff. Getting content that others either pay for later, or don't get at all for supporting the company early), or only 2 factions(known) for doing nothing but buying the game.

This gives you 10(13 for preorder) factions at start. Original Rome was 20 Factions of which 4 are Roman "houses", meaning theres a difference of 4 factions between Rome 1 and Rome 2.

They have confirmed a definite possibilty of the Nomadic Tribes being the first DLC bringing that total up to 16 total factions, for game plus minor DLC.

So, sue me, but sounds like you guys are whining about shit that you can't get cause it's only MARGINALLY different then rome 1.

People demand better games every year, they demand improvements in graphics, mechanics, physics and everything else, yet expect to carry on paying exactly the same price.  CA put a lot of work and effort into their games and have a pretty big dev team working on them.  Furthermore with a solid base game there is nothing that makes you buy the dlc other than your own weak will or created sense of need.  Only think i brought for shogun was Fall of the samurai and I have nearly 200hrs of play from that.  If you don't want to pay full price wait 6 months and it will likely be on sale, if you can't afford it on release then learn some patience.

Committing yourself to pirate the base game now, before its released is lame arse move.
