My Portfolio

A few of you may remember the drawing I did a while back for that competition..

yeah I didn't win, the rest of my group were fucking useless...

For those who don't know me, I am an aspiring concept artist :D I study games development at college, but I do this mostly in my free time!

anyway, I have a website now, has most of my work on it.

Take a look and tell me what you think?

http://jaackreeves.daportfolio.com/

tldr; look at my portfolio and give me feedback

Thanks!

Nice stuff in there! You should be able to get a job straight out of college.

Keep it up, you're talented.

You know how to use highlights, that's for sure. The lighting in those scenes is quite well done (although maybe a bit wrong in places, but since the style doesn't really pronounce details, it doesn't matter much). So far, however, most, if not all of your artworks are only useful for defining a "mood" and "atmosphere". They are just too low on details to be useful for anything else.

Much truth in this right here.

Might wanna take a look at others who are already a while in the business.

thanks!

I taught myself how to do all of this, youtube tutorials etc. I started digital painting only a couple of years ago, and I still have a year left of college to get better, then I'm planning to do a games design course in uni.. So I still have like 4 years of practice before I will try for a job, so I will improve :)

It is actually great. However, the only thing I can suggest you to is to buy a domain name (which is around ten bucks for a year) and a hosting of your own (that wouldn't cost that much either, starting from four bucks a month at big corporate service providers like GoDaddy) and set up a WordPress. There are many themes specially designed for portfolio-usage and it will have much more impact for your future employers.

You should also use web services like graphicriver and microlancer to make some good extra cash: as you have the talent.

sounds weird but I don't know why they come out so blurry, I see what you mean, and its annoying.. I am constantly using brushes with a hard edge but they always seem to come out the same:/ maybe its my rendering methods, I've been trying out a lot of different techniques today though

It's always great to see artists, because to those of us who aren't, it's like seeing magic.

Anyhoo, have you tried masking techniques? It might take away some of the 'blurriness'. Works fairly well with hard edges, such as cliff faces, rocks, and stuff.
