People would definitely give you forum reputation points and probably give you CRPG gold if you offer to draw a portrait of their character. It's fun and you are getting paid REAL INTERNET HORSE GAME GOLD for it!!!
As an aside, would you recommend any books or other resources for learning to draw with a nice pencil set? I haven't taken art class since middle school, but I am an avid doodler much to the chagrin of my Significant Other who is an illustrator.
Glad you like it! I unfortunately don't have a book that I can recommend but I will say that I have found the following principals vital in achieving any drawing talent I now possess:
-draw what you see, not what you are drawing. In otherwords, don't draw what you think the nose looks like. Instead draw the splotches, lines, and shading that you see in the configuration that they are in, and that will end up looking like the nose. Our brains tend to try to draw a pre conceived notion of what we are trying to draw rather than what our eyes are actually seing (an aid to doing this is turning what you are drawing upside down).
-when drawing faces, don't make lines! A person's face has very few lines on it. Nearly all of the facial features can be best illustrated by shading here or there.
-Greyscale (or something...) Don't be afraid to dig in with that graphite. You create realism by having depth, you create depth by having contrast between darks, mediums, and lights.
For example, look at the completed picture of the Tolkien drawing previously posted. See how darkening appropriate spots made all the difference?
