Try out weapons before you buy them

Hi,

it would be really cool if you devs could add a feature that lets you try out the weapons before you actually buy them. I think that players like me that don't have a big pile of gold stashed would love such a feature, I know I would.

In order to prevent it from being abused too much you could make some sort of requirement and ofcourse a limit saying how many items and for how long. The requirement could for example be that you need to be a specific level to be able to use the feature, or perhaps that you need to be able to afford the item you want to "rent".

If you don't like it, fine - it was just something I came up with since I couldn't decide between the Danish Greatsword and the German one  :)

Anyway, keep up the good work!

I can't read that on top of my pile of gold and unused heirloomed items.

Then loot that shit on the field

If no one uses it in battles, its probably shit and you'd buy it for trolls/ looks anyway so you don't need to try it out

It isn't such a bad idea. Would also be good if new players could try out a few different +3s before they retire for the 1st time. Some things are really hard to find on the floor and the question maybe isn't if it's the minmax choice but if it's usable at all.
At this time, however, I don't think anyone will bother coding it.

Best way to do this is to allow you to pick from any baseline item (non loomed) on the duel server.

Would allow you to get a feel for them and potentially duel people with them, and shouldn't create any issues.

I usually just make a Skip the fun, buy the weapon with the 10k, and try it out on duel. Doesn't work for items that cost more than 10k (like the greatswords you mentioned), but good for 1h weapons.

actually i kinda agree with this, something like rent this item for 1/10 of gold for x days would be awesome, many times i wasted ton of gold on weapon [swiss poleaxe for example] that i ended up being uncomfortable with. but by selling it you lose like 30% of gold.

Loot it on the battlefield, or you could also join a faction and ask to borrow someone's item

looting it on battlefield? you have no guarantee that you will actually find the weapon you want...

join a clan, check the armoury or ask people directly

otherwise do it like everybody else and leech for a couple rounds and then you got the gold
For all the non-believers, look no further than this thread for proof that while strat battles are won/lost in NA3/EU3, strat wars are won and lost on the forums.

i love how everyone resents leeching, then they promote it on forums.
edit: you will have to leech helluva lot time to purchase german great sword just to try it out...

It would be good if there was a rent for 48 hours option (for a sum of gold). Maybe make it so you can only rent a weapon once, so you can try them all if you want but only each item once. (if devs think this is necessary to stop abuse).

Tips for the mean time

Market place - You can buy and sell rank 0 items on the market place, there's quite often no need to spend the full market value, or get the shitty 50% return by selling back to the shop.

Clan armories - Most clans have items in an armory which you can borrow to try out (you may even have a rich member who doesn't mind buying something to put onto the armory.

Peasant united - Current faction thread clams over 350 items in the armory.

Friends - If a friend has an item you want to try you could ask to borrow it.. either they spawn it for you at the start of rounds or you swap for it on the marketplace then return it (make sure you have a pm between you on cRPG.net stating the agreement, that way if someone goes wrong a admin/dev can fix it). Or even just join their clan temporarily to borrow it from the armory.

Finding it on the ground - As mentioned by others quite often you can find the weapon on the ground (especially when there's >100 players on the server). Though this is pure chance if there is a particular weapon you're looking for... This is best for when you're on siege, someone kills you and you think "damn what was that weapon" watch them on death cam and see where they die and go get it. (If you can't find anyone using it.. there's usually a reason).

STF - As mentioned by HG_Guard_Phew. Skip the fun character get 10k gold to try out different builds and weapons.. this is why this option is there.
