Out of curiosity I googled a bit about kickstarters. Found this

Is this some kind of a new thing now? Make an MMO where players build their own stuff and fight etc? If so then why are only indiedevelopers working on them? Im starting to get the feeling publishers are scared shitless of funding new projects. Its sad how there is really nothing fresh on the horizon from the mainstreamside of gaming. All of em are basically milking their old franchises in fear that if they fund something new they crash and burn.

Believe it or not, such sandbox games, while popularity IS increasing, are still considered niche games and thus mostly developed by small/indie studios.

On the Xsyon matter - the game is already playable (I think their kickstarter is to raise additional funds).

I bought it when it was still pay2play. It wasn't much back then, pretty grindy. But it's free to try now I guess so it doesn't hurt. I might retry it myself.

So I signed up. It appears that it makes a rather big deal that I dont have a premium account with a big fat red sign in the homepage that informs me that my account is free and therefor not a premium. Out of curiosity. What do I dont get or what are there limitations with a free account?

It's throwing it in your face because it's basically freemium. Means free to play but with such limitations that if you want to get something more done, you'll need a subscription account.


    Players cannot start new Tribes
    Players cannot join new Tribe charters
    Players can join tribes but they do not add to the tribe size
    Skills are effectively limited to 30
    Players cannot use gained experience to level up

Holy shit. 30$ for an account and 9,99$ each month? Are they mental? Who the hell is willing to pay so much on a regular basis? This "free 2 play" thing is making much more sense now.
