If the US had cared about the jews, they would have joined the war much earlier. =P

Caring about != going to war for. Keep in mind that the true extent of the killings wasn't really known well at this point.

Don't take all comments too seriously though.

Anyway, they could have joined far earlier. At least I guess they knew what the war was about.

To the US, as to all other parties, the war was about power structures, nothing less nothing more. The Yanks joined when they had the most to gain. Anything outside state Realpolitik is just rhetoric with mass mobilization as its goal.

Being from the U.S, i've always wanted to watch a good WWII series and/or movie from the Axis perspective (Letters from Iwo Jima is a good example.) Don't get me wrong, I love seeing the good ol' boys in Green, but Germanic history - being of primarily Germanic ancestry myself - and the chocolate chip cookie war machine is simply fascinating. IMO, no one equaled their army quality for the first 2 or 3 years of the war. I'll check this series out for sure.

Sounds interesting, will watch in a few days. Hope I remember enough German not to need subtitles.

An older movie, but of a really good quality, and gives a different perspective on an ordinary German soldier during WW2:

Maybe, yes. Then again, why would they really care? Dying for frenchies or russians isn't really that appealing if they can do it for themselves. The americans gave plenty of material help for the russians and british, however. Again, being sympathetic to someone does not equal giving ones life for him.

Not true.
Quote
A total of $50.1 billion (equivalent to $639 billion today) worth of supplies were shipped. That represented 17% of the total war expenditures of the U.S.[2] In all, $31.4 billion went to Britain, $11.3 billion to the Soviet Union, $3.2 billion to France, $1.6 billion to China, and smaller sums to other Allies. Reverse Lend-Lease comprised services such as rent on air bases that went to the U.S., and totaled $7.8 billion; of this, $6.8 billion came from the British and the Commonwealth. The terms of the agreement provided that the material was to be used until time for their return or destruction. In practice very little equipment was returned. Supplies that arrived after the termination date were sold to Britain at a large discount for £1.075 billion using long-term loans from the United States. Canada operated a similar program called Mutual Aid that sent a loan of $1 billion and $3.4 billion in supplies and services to Britain and other Allies.[3][4] The United States did not charge for aid supplied under this legislation.

Neither Britain nor the Soviet Union had any cash left by 1941 btw.

The whole idea, also for the Marshall Plan, was to get European economy up and running again (without German monopoly) so as to be an export market for American goods. Everything was also given in dollars, strengthening this currency way beyond its pre-war value.

Political and economic goodwill followed, of course, among other things receiving European nations rewrote their history books to have less of that 'dangerous' nationalism, while 'patriotism' (basically the same thing) grew to ever higher levels across the pond.

Basically, WWII was the best thing that could have happened to US economical and political power.

Watched all 3 episodes in a row :) And I want more!

Reminded me once more, why i am never going to participate in any wars! Will move to Greenland or some piece of shit island in pacific, and die of hunger, rather than do THAT.
Would only arm myself in case of a personal loss, and only if i already feel dead inside, unable to live normally anyway. Patriotism, nationalism, duty, pride, etc., - it can all kiss my ass. I pity the fool, who can justify 60 million dead people with cheap populist speeches.

Yeah except Britain only fully finished paying off it's 'debt' to the US in 2006. Which is pretty ridiculous. The US near enough bankrupted some countries with their 'aid' and enjoyed getting fat and rich.

What bankrupted britain was the war expenditure. And of course, the evil americans demanding at least some money paid back. Reminds me of the germanhate in Europe right now.

germanhate in Europe right now.

Someone besides Greece hates Germany?..

No colonies, no slaves, only united a 150 years ago, destroyed by 2 wars and separated by a stupid wall - still comes out on top! How can you not respect Germany?..
Have been in Germany two times - once in Bonn and Köln, and once in Hamburg - great country! Although couldn't even buy an u-bahn ticket, since no one speaks English. :)
