Why not 2h?

I'm sorry to rustle any feathers but why wouldn't you take 2h/polearms? I'm new to this game but it seems the top 4-5 in every game, in every server, are same form of 2h weapon users. There are a few exceptions (cav in cav friendly map) but honestly as a 1h shield user it gets quite frustrating. Thoughts?

I mean to say is seems to me, despite being a new user, that 2h'ers are the way to go. Is there an overwhelming reason not to?

mh, for me and many other 2h is simply the most fun and some challenge as well. Of course there are those that play 2h because they think its the most powerful class. But after the last patch many will agree that they arent that powerful anymore. However to be succesfull with 2h you need some solid manual blocking skills besides good timing, footwork, use of your wepons length, and so on (which you need in every class). So its definitely not the easiest to start with I'd say,

edit: if you got trouble against 2h with a shielder try the steel pick for example, its fast and very hard to see and to block correctly. Also wait for your right time to hit the enemy.

the reason people that play pure 2h/pole top the charts is that probably they spent most time crafting their skills (that goes for cav too, some ppl are amazing and its not as easy as it looks) not to knock other ppl off but for me that was the hardest class to play at the begining and thats way i persisted with it.

people mostly dont play class of that sort if they cant manual block well. and honestly for me it has been quite a process of learning the blocks, feints, movement, distance...

its very satisfiying once you see the results kick in, but also very frustrating due to massive ammount of ranged still.

i enchourage you to take up 2h, start spending some time on duel servers, push you limits see where are your weak and strong points, choose a weapon and learn its behaviour. speed lenght etc. im sure it will be a great challenge at first but after a while you start to love it.

or you will be a weakling that will just quit and grab a bow.

And now he can't play because of "common sense" and he doesn't understand how this common sense works

Because it's not everyone's style?

Not everyone likes the feel of 2h, or Polearms.

And that's good for the game.

Yeah thanks for the input. I think I will pick it up and increase my manual blocking ability.

Here's a couple of reasons:
You will need good blocking
You will need good situational awareness
You will find yourself being shot to pieces alot
You will find yourself overwhelmed by cavalry in the open (on populated servers)

Not saying that being a 2hander is any harder than shielder, but the game is different when you are a 2hander, and you will need to play it differently.

If you find yourself having trouble against 2handers, remember your advantage:
You have a temporary autoblock (Your shield)

The shield allows you to do things that are suicidal to 2handers:
You can approach groups of archers, flank, and if lucky or against unskilled opponents, start chopping them to pieces.
You are much harder to get rid off. Standing on a hill and just looking on the enemy makes you a threat, and they might NEED to respond. 2handers have to charge right away.
You can fight groups of enemies much easier, and with practice and against unskilled opponents, you can defeat alot of enemies.
You can protect your allies from multiple enemies or ranged attacks, giving them the opportunity to counterattack while you keep your shield up.

Just trying to help you out.

There are shielders that top the scoreboard as well.

Bare in mind, killing power isn't the only thing you want in a character. Shielders are more team-oriented than 2hers. They can provide cover for other players and use their force-field to perform blocks for the heavy hitters. Shielders are also essential when crossing open fields. A team without shielders will be more likely to lose. They are a very important class.
So with PT >10 stones become simple too effective

Most 2h simply don't play as team-orientated than most shielders. But to say the class per se is less team oriented ist just wrong. shielders and 2h can work perfectly together and one can be important for the other equally if played well. I know you have the examples in your head so I dont have to desribe it in detail, I think.

Yes, but teamwork for a 2h usually means killing the bastard while he's attacking the shielder, which partly explains the OP's question.

There's only one thing a 2h can do, and that's kill. Of course, we can try and stand at the front and block all the hits, but a shielder is better for that type of work.

exactly.

though i have two say I often enjoyed standing in good distance from an archer, waiting till he picks me as an easy target, evase his shots and watch how some allies are coming from the side or behind and kill him.

and the killing can be done by simply charging fast or by surrounding the enemy and trying to put your teammates (e.g. the shielder) on a flanking position.

Thats what I'm driving at. 2hers can't do it all by themselves, which is what makes shielders an important class. Polearms and 2her have more killing power, but in a lot of situations they are helpless to protect their teammates. Shielders have a few more options in this regard.

In short, you need both for a successful team. Killing power only tells a fraction of the story.

Sometimes the 2handers/polearms guys top the chars due to a great job from the shielders / support classes.
Just don't mind the egometers (scoreboards) and play the way you have the most fun at.

if you put it that way you're right of course. 2h can't do shit in certain situations, you could say they are more team-addicted (without knowing sometimes).
