I think the whine about 2H is just good old someone-killed-me-with-2H-and-I-wan't-it-nerfed-bias. You forget that polearms are the most versatile weapons all-round. Superior reach, damage, ability to change damage type, superior ganking weapons. If you die to a 2h in battle while you have teammates supporting you and vice versa the 2H player is either simply better than you or you weren't using your reach. You're meant to keep back a bit as a polearmer and maneuver out of the enemy's reach. Since the left and right swings are so wide, you use these from the flanks of a "gank squad" or whatever. You're more useful chipping away at over-confident players who over-extend their positions.
While as a 2hander, you have speed and finesse. It's a lot easier to pick off opponents due to these facts, and the animations let you swing a bit more freely. That is why an experienced 2hander would always keep in the center of the "gank squad". As a Longsworder myself, this is where I shine. I am fearless in the center because I know I have speed advantage, as well as the ideal range for me to get full-power hits in on whoever I aim at, which would usually be someone who's busy fighting an ally, and then switch back quickly to whoever is coming for me. If watching Afro Samurai taught me something, it's that striking without thought, from the sub-conscious, is the key to juggling multiple opponents.
At least if you want to glorify virtual feats in an internet horses game.
On a much more humbler note, 2H has its fields where it shines and so does polearms. It's up to you to focus on those areas and abuse the fuck out of that knowledge.
