Metal for me is NWOBHM + old skool metallica.

I agree to some degree.

James Hetfield cut his hair and Judas Priest went on hiatus. Metal for me is NWOBHM + old skool metallica.

As a metal addict, I love me a lot of oldskool bands (got full discography of Metallica for example, though I don't like Judas Priest that much). On the other hand, I really love how new-gen metal bands keep marching on and triumphing in terms of musiquality.

When metal is in question, there is always quality indeed, because you know you most probably won't be making shitloads of money out of it despite the fact that bands like Metallica may have done it back in the day. So, metal means focusing on great music.

I can't really think of any new pure metal bands to recommend to you and appease your longing for oldskool bands but I listen to a lot of other bands playing other niche genres of metal (goth, doom, stoner, ambient etc.). In brief, I have full trust in metal such that I am sure I will still find some bands to listen to even when I grow old enough to be called a geezer.

I think that 79-82 was the golden age of the new wave of Heavy Metal, just think of all the great bands emerging with amazing debutes or only EP's at that time. After that the genre went in a weird direction.

There is a lot, and they are amaaazing.

I can, did you know there is actually a movement called NWOTHM? New wave of traditional Heavy Metal.

Bands like Cauldron, White Wizzard, Enforcer and so on are bands holding the torch high even today.

These guys formed in 2004;

Nice indeed. If we are talking about heavy metal, then let me introduce you to the pride of my country. Formed in 1987, this band has been evolving. It is still alive and kicking. Here you go, if you haven't heard of it by now, Pentagram (not to be confused with the old American doom band Pentagram):

Also make sure to check out Apokalips from their latest album just so you get an idea of the evolution.

If you are into NWOBHM, you should definitely look up this list:

Haven't listened to all of them, but I think they are part of the NWOTHM movement.

The one I posted has the awesome NWOBHM formula that never, EVER fails to deliver.

The pride of gothenburg!

When I read Gothenburg, I expected Melodic Death Metal but still good.

Now, this one I like pretty much. This thread is going in a fine direction. Maybe it should be turned into a dedicated metalhead thread?

This is one of the few "Modern" bands that keep somewhat of a old school sound to them.

Not an amazing song, but I enjoy it.  It gives you a similar feeling that metal did back then for me.  (I am only 19 though so I cannot say much)

It may be on the edge of what "Metal" is considered, although it reminds me so much of ACDC.  So I just consider it metal.

This is now one of my favorite threads in this forum. Here's a pretty good website for all things metal (although it mostly focuses on the extreme kinds): http://www.metalstorm.net

Thanks for the new bands, glad that I have some good new music (at least new for me) to listen to.
