Home Remedies?

I used to get sick a fucking lot up until January when I got my tonsils removed after an agonizing two years of constant strep throat and tonsillitis.  Not only that, but I was sick so often that I got hit with the stomach flu frequently while I was already down with the feeling of glass shards in my throat.

Fortunately, it's better and I haven't really been 'sick' since my surgery, but I still get migraines occasionally.

Anyway, I've basically collected some remedies for dealing with random shit and I want you share yours.

Headaches / Migraines:

Pretty much the usual, darken your room, take some aspirin or acetaminophen and stop monitor tanning for like 30 minutes.

Fucking drink water.

Upset stomach:

Peppermint tea, chamomile helps.  Not much else I can say.

Sore throat:

Hot fucking tea, lots of water, no dairy products, popsicles, hard candy, honey, gargle with salt water, get some antibiotics if it's Strep throat.

I'll think up some more, most are basic but I was surprised at how few people even knew these.

If you have bad back pain go out and find some rice in those huge bags (usually like 10 - 20 kg or 20 - 40 pounds)  and fill a sock up with the rice until it's pretty thick.  Tie off the open end and microwave that bitch for 2 - 3 minutes.  Wrap it in a towel and bam, you've got an excellent heat pack.

Stomachache:
Lie on your left side, curl up, pull your legs close, then prod your stomach clockwise around your navel.

Eating raw garlic might help. At the very least, it helps in direct contact with bacterial infections. I'm not a microbiologist or a physician, so I have no idea, but it can't hurt anyone except whoever you kiss, right?

When I get a strain of the flu, I generally sleep for a whole (24 hours) day on the first weekend I get and it's generally gone the next week.

A cold lasts seven days with medical treatment, and a week without.

Ultimately, the most important things are preventive. Solid nutrition, exercise, and drinking plenty of water always help. There's a variable that medical textbooks I've read tend to mention even though it may seem like common sense - 'good health' and/or 'physically fit'.

Your migraines I'm going to guess are due to not getting enough caffeine.

I never realized how "addicted" to caffeine I was until I finally figured out my occasional migraine was because I hadn't had any caffeine that day (or for a couple days).  I was a couple caffeinated beverages a day type of guy.

Since then I quit caffeine, and have started drinking coffee again, and the same thing, like on the weekend or if I'm out of town fishing or something and don't have caffeine I'll get a terrible migraine (not always, but sometimes).  It's not nearly as bad as it used to be, because I try not to overdo the caffeine on a daily basis.

If you need to take any "headache" medicine ever, I'd highly recommend Excedrin, it's got some caffeine in it, works way better than Acetaminophen or aspirin

Yup I worked that one out as well. If I don't drink coke or a cup of coffee for even one day I get a really bad headache. Pretty bad but I love my coffee too damn much.

Either that or there are a bunch of other things. For example my mum gets them because she's allergic to something in alcohol. She'll literally have one glass of red wine then get a terrible migraine. My sister gets them from strip lights. Whilst she was at uni she had them in her room and got lots of migraines. They worked out it's apparently because they flash on and off very quickly, which causes a lot of people migraines.

Chronic cluster migraines actually run in my family, as odd as that sounds, and fortunately I haven't had to suffer through the worst of them yet but it certainly isn't caffeine withdrawals.  I get my caffeine fix pretty well every day, and I wish I could stop but god damn coffee is just too good to give up.

Yep, I've met people who've gone to the doctor over headaches to get prescribed painkillers because they don't know the true power of aspirin, the wonder drug.

EDIT:

Also, I don't usually get headaches but full blown migraines that leave you deprived of any form of physical energy.  Light quickly becomes your worst enemy in those situations too.

It's weird, despite my nickname I never got any problem staying during extended length of time without any caffeine (coke, coffee, tea whatever). Then again, I basically don't know what a headache is. Only thing I got (plenty of times though) was sinusites.

In fact I didn't knew people could get physically addicted to caffeine.

Yep, supposedly some people go through detox for it.

Got a home remedy for lag spikes?

What kind of modem are you using?  I had a DOCSIS 1.0 modem and was told I needed to upgrade to a DOCSIS 3.0 because the 1.0's couldn't handle network packets as well as the newer modems.  I replaced it and still had periods of 10-15 second network drops.  I complained again to my cable company and they said that since I had a "special" rate ($30/month) for my cable internet, I was actually on a lower tier plan than their current lowest tier offering.  I was getting 2mb upload, and 20 mb download.  They said that they believed that since they were throttling back my connection (basically "lagging" me with packets on a higher tier service) that it was most likely the culprit.  I flipped my shit and they upgraded me to 50mbps download, and 5mbps upload, and haven't had any issues since.

So you could possibly be in the boat with either of those issues.
