Character belongs to someone else.

Hi, I played cRPG about a year ago using a CD key bought from Taleworlds, since then however I bought the game through steam, and have upgraded to a new PC. Is there anyway to make it so I can play on my old character?

So when I go to play on a server it kicks me and says this character belongs to someone else.

You will need to play with your old cd key. You can change the cd key in the regedit.

You probably recieved the taleworlds key with some e-mail or registered it on their website (log in on taleworlds.com, check cd key if you did register it). Also you will have to install the game seperate from the steam warband version. Whenever you start warband with steam it will use the steam key automatically. The new crpg launcher asks you if you wanna start the steam or normal version of the game (if you got the game installed twice).
If you somehow lost the key I'd simply contact the taleworlds support (if they help for stuff like that).
