The main issue with clang is that they over sold how talented they were. They said they would reach certain way points far quicker than they could and so the product didn't develop to the time scale they said it would. Furthermore the product that they showed to the backers was incomplete and overall broken meaning that the chances of gaining additional funds were gone. The final nail in the coffin was that they believed that their front man's character would be enough to secure investment from outisde the industry, this was not the case. Maybe he's written some books or something but to most people he's just a weird looking nerd and people don't give money just for that.The mechanical failure of the engine coupled with a mis-sold business model meant this project was always going to fail. It's nothing to do with kickstarter simply a bad team who were unable to live up to the promise they made.
