The main issue with clang is that they over sold how talented they were.  They said they would reach certain way points far quicker than they could and so the product didn't develop to the time scale they said it would.  Furthermore the product that they showed to the backers was incomplete and overall broken meaning that the chances of gaining additional funds were gone. The final nail in the coffin was that they  believed that their front man's character would be enough to secure investment from outisde the industry, this was not the case. Maybe he's written some books or something but to most people he's just a weird looking nerd and people don't give money just for that.

The mechanical failure of the engine coupled with a mis-sold business model meant this project was always going to fail.  It's nothing to do with kickstarter simply a bad team who were unable to live up to the promise they made.

yes it still is a kickstarter fail because as kickstarter claims, now they must give back the money if they cannot complete what they sold to those people.  If it is spent like they said, then where are they going to get 500k from?  I believe that is a fail on kickstarters part and this is why i believe the whole kickstarter thing is a squabble, there isnt any sort of quality control on things and it lets stuff like this happen.  But of course kickstarter wont see it that way as they made their money and i dont think they could care, as they are rolling in the green.

By giving money to a Kickstarter project, you are donating, not pre-ordering.
Meaning lies as much
in the mind of the reader
as in the Haiku.

i think the preconception here is that when you "donate" to a project you arent truly donating as much as you are investing.  You are investing hope with your money of course that the product they claim to be creating will live up to the expectations that not only you, but the creators spoke of.  And when it doesn't the creator and anyone else can hide behind the words "donation" to cover up fault as to why someone can lose money.  Normally people arent going to just "donate" without thought of purchasing the product in the near future.

Anyways, we have slightly gone off topic, didnt they try to do something similar with a wii game where you could swing a sword around, also i do believe microsoft is doing something similar with a roman game and the kinect.

The point of Kickstarter is that the money only is donated when a certain lower limit of donation promises is made. Once all the would-be donations reach that goal, all the money is effectively donated, never to be seen again. This helps the first donators because they don't want to give money if the project isn't going to effectively happen.

Doubt it.

Although yeah this was my main complaint about the whole kickstarter thing, so many stealing campaigns, intentional or not.
