medium armor. not plate and not cloth. something you like by the looks.

edit: however as you have no ironflesh cloth armor wouldnt be bad.

18/24 is not much, but it isnt little either. i would say try some weapons if you want you can always join peasants united. its a clan that i made to help new players. you can use free items from the armoury instead of buying them yourself.

im not a shielder myself, but i would say try a blunt weapon?

For a build like this I would suggest the steel pick, or military pick. You will be very fast and will dead considerable damage. the drawback however is that you will have little range. If you want something longer you could try the side sword. Remmember though, your damage will be lower and fighting might be a bit more difficult.

6 power strike is enough that you can use any 1h weapon well. If it is lower, your attacks will glance with cutting weapons such as swords. Try out many types of weapons to find the style you like best. Don't forget that you scavenge items as needed during a round. Spears are great for rearing horses and supporting allied melee fighters. If you are facing another shielder and don't have an axe, pick one up and make him scared! Even with only 1 wpf in two handed and polearms, 6 powerstrike will let you do decent damage. Your swings will just be on the slow side.

For armor, I would recommend something that gives 30-40 armor for your body and head. Anything more will slow you down and the high athletics won't be of any use. You can also switch to very light cloth armor and you will fly around the battlefield at nearly the speed of a horse.

With 8 shield skill, you can use any shield and do well. Heavy round, board, and plate covered round shield are very durable with okay speed. The knightly heater, steel buckler, round steel buckler, and all of the cheap low-level shields will be faster and still last a very long time. Enemies with axes can break those in a few hits, though.

irl something shorted on the shuttle and laika overheated and died within a few hours of liftoff and for a brief while one could look up to the stars and see a light shooting across the sky that was actually a warm dog corpse slingshoting about the earth at thousands of miles per hour which was arguably humanity's greatest achievement so far

OP : mid armor (light) with elite spamitard scimitar and huscarl shield

Cool : Military hammer + knight heater + mid armor

Fast : Yanmadao with elite cav shield + low armor

Best tip : take whatever wep you found cool and run it!
So the new response to ranged ragers is not "get a shield", it is "learn to chamber ranged nub!"

Be aware that you will need to level to 33 for that build (and suffer through 3 shield skill at 30).

e: level 32, rather.

I am 18/24 with lvl 31. 1 IF, 6 PS, 8 Athletics, 5 Shield and 0 WM. It works, but some more IF would really help...

I found that low-IF fast 1h was great in loosely knit skirmishes, but that the lack of survivability was a real a pain in densely packed group fights. It's also really difficult to maximize your speed bonus in packed fights.
