(You can take points out of strength and put them into ironflesh if you want, I suggest the 17 str because it opens up a few more weapons for you that otherwise you'd be too weak for.)

Can use almost anything on the ground, can ride most of the horses, and is a jack-of-all-trades master-of-none. 
I suggest wearing ugly/mismatched light armor, and starting the round with a club or other minor weapon.

Then, simply use whatever you can scavenge during the round.

It's both funny and intense.  If you get a group of people together it could be even funnier if you are all scrambling for weapons/horses off the fallen.

There is a problem with throwing weapons, even now. It's not gamebreaking like bug you've mentioned but it is very annoying. Every now and then when players pick up throwing weapon it becomes unequipped, which can mean death in many situations.

Did it for a long time, no one complained. Most people won't bother with that, they prefer using weapon they spawn with.

Players who do that actually help more than players like you and Admerius who spawn just to suicide few moments later.
