Sleeping Dogs and Hitman Absolution Kafein's Adventure

So I bought Steam keys for Sleeping Dogs and Hitman Absolution (8.50 each), and also drm-free Hitman 2 and Hitman Blood Money (2.50 each) directly from Square yesterday.

Guess what both Sleeping Dogs and Hitman Absolution are impossible to play, they just crash immediately upon startup. I of course tried everything and searched the web. There is actually no know fix for my specific problems, except I heard a cracked verison of Sleeping Dogs works on the same pcs other people were having the same problems. So I downloaded a cracked version and simultaneously opened a dispute over my paypal transaction, arguing that the game was unusable despite being advertised otherwise on my system (also that I had searched the issue did all the usual fixes blablabla). I had as you would expect 0 hope of actually getting a refund, but I asked for a 6 euros refund (the VAT was like 1.70) anyway. And today I received an email with subject "your dispute was closed" : they actually accepted the refund  despite selling me Steam keys, not games. And also despite losing the key. If this ever gets fixed, I'll have a working steam version of the game for a fraction of the price.

So now I will do the same for the defective Hitman game, no reason they don't accept that either.

Where do you buy those keys?

I use 2 different key seller and I never have been disappointed by them.
Here are my recommendations:

http://www.cjs-cdkeys.com/

and

http://www.g2play.net/store/home.php

...as an example: SimCity Limited Edition Preorder on Origin: 59,99€ - bought at g2play for 39,99€ :)

There are several similar offers for Origin/Steam/Uplay now and then. But careful, when Steam has sales, it's very likely cheaper than the key seller! At least in my experience...

I was pretty surprised too, but I did my research and there are plenty of threads and questions about these issues, without any working fix so yeah. Not my fault.

Actually I bought those games from Square Enix's website : https://store.eu.square-enix.com/emea_europe/

(I also never had any problems with g2play, bought RO2 and borderlands 2 from them)

Looks like I lost the right to play the game on Steam though. Took about a day.

Be careful when you buy CD-Keys, some sites sell you versions that only work in their region but don't necessarily tell you up front, or give you tips to use VPN to get around it. You risk losing your account if you use proxies to trick Steam into thinking you're from another country, just not worth it imo. They actually say in their Steam user agreement that you won't use proxies to disguise your location.

I'd stear clear of Play-SC for that reason

Sleeping Dogs is awesome though, best of the genre imo

Not like you'd be missing much, new Hitman is utter garbage and a popamole for consoles.
Mods compatible with cRPG. New crosshairs, textures, sounds, yay.

I just started playing the cracked version (it works flawlessly, maximum irony reached) and my first impressions are that the ambiance is cool, the unarmed combat parts are really well done although enemies suffer from the assassin's creed guard syndrome. One thing though. The driving mechanics are simply awful. Not nearly as bad as in Just Cause 2, but the same kind of bad. There seems to be a controversy on the web, some people love the driving, some people hate it (I'm part of that group). At least for someone used to simulation-ey handling, driving in sleeping dogs, despite the welcome effort of driving on the left lane, feels like my brain is being put into a microwave and unlearning everything about real car physics. On top of that, it's not actually easy to drive, it's just broken :

1) Handbrakes will stop your car faster than real brakes.
2) Tap a or d and the car will instantly turn 15 degrees, at any speed. So actually when you want to drive straight you are pretty much forced to zigzag.
3) Cars have no weight. You'd think you can start a cornering drift by tapping the handbrake after turning gently. Nothing of the sort.
4) Driving fast around corners is possible, but only the exact way that was intended by the developpers, which involves keeping your thumbs down on the keys a lot. Finesse is not allowed.
5) Acceleration is retardedly high, top speed retardedly low, braking is way too strong too but without that driving would be impossible
6) Using the brake with cars will cause them to strafe slightly. Using the handbrake with motorcycles does the same.
6) Consolitus. The wasd keys are clearly being mapped to 0-100% analog sticks, which is part of the zigzag driving problem. Also you can control the camera with your mouse but it will try to interpret your mouse movements in terms of 90 degree camera angles, and when you reverse, all hell breaks loose. Mouse controls stop responding and the camera will do three 360 around your car.

The story is good and the fighting is pretty fun. Gun play feels kinda tacked on and slo-mo makes it way to easy to headshot rooms full of enemies. Driving is as you said gimped. Bikes are possibly the most retarded things for handelling while boats are actually quite good.

A big plus for the music. Radio track choice is impeccable. I mean, they just took one of the best ones from GTA:SA (Eminence Front) like they don't give a fuck then proceed to add a classical radio with the good Grieg stuff and Debussy. Also the karaoke song are reeeeeally cheesy, which is awesome.

Wait.. There was a way to get around that didn't involve the parachute and grappling hook?
