Interested in a Full Plate 1h / Shielder Build

just to update everyone I had completed this build and its pretty solid, I run faster than 80% of the people on the field in full plate. The other bonus of this build is if I wear super light armor I am topping the charts too. This build is very versatile and fun! I actually top the charts more in light armor than heavy but the light armor guy gets CREAMED in big close battles once you get hit 2 times youre pretty much dead.

Was wondering what a good build would be?

I have played 24/15 and 18/18 before but I'm thinking for full plate you would need really high wpf to be agile enough. 15/21?

Skill to att 2
IF 5
PS 5
Shield 5
Atheltics 7
WM 7
1h 163

Would that work?

1h weapons are pretty quick as-is, I don't think you'd need more than 5WM.  5PS with 1h means glances aplenty unless you use a pick or have a +3 35+ cut-damage weapon (cleavers, axes, grosse messer, etc).

You can do well with 1h weapons and 5 PS.  I've kicked ass with a +3 KAS using a 15/21 build...you just have to "hit right."  It's true, however, that you will have a much easier time with a blunt or pierce weapon.

It's also true that you may not need 163 wpf, though I'm curious what that would be like too.  If you want you can get maybe 130 wpf and then take a hearty helping of xbow or polearm proficiency to keep things interesting and versatile.  Up to you!

It's a good build for shielder, i'm not sure about all plate though, because I don't have experience with that.  You can give it a try!  For extra fun, get a steel shield and turtle the fuck out of them.

Go 27-12. Don't worry about athletics if you're gonna be a super heavy character just embrace it.

9 PS
9 IF
4 ATH
4 Shield (get a bigass 2 slot one unless you have a +3 1-slotter)
3 WM

For weapon whaatever you like, but the upside is with so much PS you can even use longer 1h swords and not have the glancing problems that 1h with lower PS have. So I would might be inclined to take advantage of this especially on battle.

Don't worry about about covering your weaknesses like slow speed with athletics and wpf, just stick with teammates to cover you better while you mix it up in a fight. Your job is to anchor a battle line and when people strike at your teammates you counter at their now exposed areas. You expose yourself and may get hit to but that's your job just try not to get hit at max speed bonus and very little will get past your soak (this is easier with a longer 1h sword, you don't have to commit yourself as much as you would with a 70 length weapon). If you do this effectively you can be pivotal in breaking their formation.

meh being a slow turtle is not fun for me. I do use a Mighty Iberian Mace so glancing won't be a problem with 5PS :D

The thing is, if you are wearing plate with only 5ps and maybe 5if and you have 7-8 ath, you are not properly taking advantage of your build/gear. Either take lighter armor(even the med/heavy armor is better than plate), or build a character with enough PS/if that it doesn't matter how slowly you move(24 str+)

Full plate + shield weight pretty much guarantees that this is going to be the case, unless you take truly ludicrous amounts of ath. Even then, your acceleration is going to be low enough to interfere with 1h footwork.

These things aren't necessarily true.  The athletics can counter-balance your weight to an extent, and is at least worth considering.

If you are carrying 35 wt worth of stuff and have 7 athletics, you will move at the same speed as being completely naked with 2 athletics.

If you have 35 wt worth of stuff and 4 athletics, you will move at the same speed as being naked with -1 athletics.

So basically you will be choosing between 2 athletics and -1 athletics.  If you want to make up for some weakness due to being slow, it can still make sense to take 7 athletics.  It will not be completely useless.

How slow is -1 athletics while naked?  It's the same as a lv1 peasant carrying 20wt.

crpg calc site is blocked here heh so I was guessing. I would take more points off WM then before IF, anything WPF over 100 is fine really since you're not really dueling anyways, your role is a battle line anchor.

The marginal benefit of wearing super duper plate is how well it STACKS with hit points otherwise the benefit is way too low for cost. You maximize STR and IF to get the most out of the plate, otherwise why bother? You are just wasting your gold going 15/21 and putting on plate with that low HP, with 5 str/5if you are getting so low marginal benefit may as well be in chainmail, and it wont cost you 5000 gold a round in repairs.

That's interesting and good to know, but the point is he is not moving much anyway if his job is to stay with the pack and anchor the battleline and having lasting power while pushing/pulling at the enemy with Id recommend a longer 1h. In strat battles using plate in these situations I have good results using 106 length longsword or 105 Heavy bastard sword + shield. The speed penalty doesnt matter when you are just swinging opportunistically line to line instead of dueling.

Honestly, if I was doing a full plate 1-hander I would drop the shield.

Even wearing full plate, you can be surprisingly fast with just a 1-hander and no shield. 1-handers are inherently light and shorter weapons get less of a movement speed penalty than longer weapons.

I do this build as a skip the fun quite often and it's hilariously easy to top the boards:

Strength: 27
Agility: 12
Hit points: 74
Skills to attributes: 8
Ironflesh: 6
Power Strike: 9
Athletics: 4
Weapon Master: 4
One Handed: 140

The only time you're at a disadvantage is if you're fighting a good 2h duelist in a 1v1, but why would you be doing that anyway?
