I have seen an archer/thrower hybrid before. Had my respect. "Haha, I forced that silly archer to change to his melee weapon!" THROWING AXE IN FACE!

SO you cant tell us anything about lancing because you play not as a dedicated. just for fun every build?
The normal Lance is between light lance and heavy lance so far i get it. The diffrenecs between Lance and Heavy Lance is length 10. What a big deal. WOW. You donkey crew made the lance steps really stupid.
Keep in mind you are on HORSE, length 10 is insignificant on horse. YOure just too fast to take this tiny advantage. OMG!
And Lance is significant faster than Heavy.

  It might be a bug, but I have been having the best rounds of my life using a masterwork long awlpike on horseback. 35 pierce, great speed, only 5 less length than the heavy lance.

"Can't use on horseback"

It is a bug, unfortunately. I highly recommend that you post this in the bug reports.

Can you do it with other "not usable" items if you spawn on your horse?

Have you tried using a Pike or Long Pike?
