so i recently got a hold of this beauty

ive noticed that it can be an incredibly powerfull weapon and when the hit connects and lands properly it deals quite some dmg + knockdown. but it does also glance a whole lot.

So my question here is you who have played with the staff how did u play (build) and if you could share some tricks if you have any up your sleeve.

Im going for a 27/12 1 wpf build so no superspam for me  :wink: i know usually people went with a whole lot of agi with the staff but im trying a different approach.

Generally speaking, the more damage you can land per hit, the less chance of a glance.

You go for 21 (I presume str?) so that should be enough.

I played with this staff using 18/21 , pretty good. and you can give some shield skills instead of IF.

Damage increases alot for the first hundred wpf. With 1 wpf you're really gimped.

As a qstaff master, 27/12 is best at 4WM for full WPF, you can drop almost anyone in 2-3 body shots or 1-2 head shots. There's no point in going that high str without getting at least 100wpf for full damage. 18/21 is also a great build for it, people normally think that I'm 12/27 when I do a balanced gen but I still hit hard enough to drop most medium armored foes in 4 clean body shots.

I don't know anything about the staff, but as Kelurgan said, don't you have to have at least 100 wpf (after deduction of weight penalty) to deal the proper amount of damage?
I mean, what have you got to lose? You know, you come from nothing, you're going back to nothing, what have you lost? Nothing!

Your build will be hard to play .And 1wpf..?
Make 21/15 it will be better imo.7if 7ps 5shield 5 ath 5wm with full polearm wpf.
If you don't want shield skills>24/15 5if 8ps 5ath 5wm

If I were doing a dedicated Q-Staff build I'd probably shoot for 27/15 in light (under 7 total armor weight) armor, 9 ps, 5 ath, 3 wm (could sub the 3 WM for IF but you've already got a good deal of health just from Strength's not OP passive).

I rolled a 24/15 cav for a while, and whenever I got dismounted I was amazed at what a beast build quarterstaff with decent ps is. I had an unloomed quarter staff, but with 8 ps and 130 WM that thing was still disgustingly fast and the damage was pretty sweet. As for tricks, use whatever you did with the long hafted blade, a fast polearm is a fast polearm. Hiltslashing works perfectly is all I can say.

This is both not true. It is all gradual, there are no minimal damage thresholds or anything. You will deal a 100% of the displayed damage at 100 wpf, which means you deal 99% of the damage at 95 wpf, so that is no big deal. Afaik at 0 wpf you will deal 85% of the displayed damage. At 200 wpf you will deal 115%.

As for the swing speed increase, it is about 6.5% per 100 wpf, so the difference between 115 wpf at 1 WM or 140 at 4 WM is about 5% damage and a little more than 2% speed. Which means as much that having low WPF is perfectly fine and probably best if it gets you more IF. I think 27/12 is an excellent build with the MW quarterstaff. In my opinion anything which is considered fast and low damage does not need the WM because fast is fast and proper footwork and mousework get you a lot more speed and damage than the WM does.

i've gone with the mw quarterstaff beofre, and recently got my hands on one again, so this gen ill be using it once more. I've only used it with high agi builds since, imo, the staffs speed is its greatest advantage - and if you combine that speed with high agi for movement speed, it enables you to get trough many players' defense.
Anyways, the stab is obviously the staffs most powerful attack, so i'd aim to use that pretty often - it also hits at point blank range without glancing as opposed to the sideswing - overhead is also nice for the headshots. When you're further away, the left and right swings can be effective too - i tend to always aim for the head though.
I also like wearing very lgiht gear as it increases the speed and people often underestimate you or think you're a peasant.
