I'm actually curious about how infamy and renown work on the forums, because it doesn't appear to be linear. Sometimes I get +1 or -1 and the total doesn't change, and sometimes either number drops...

Anyone know what the deal is?

Obviously it's inconsequential but I've been curious about it since the beginning. For the most part, my infamy is actually just a log of how much Kaoklai dislikes me anyway.

+1 and -1's cancel each other out (obv)

So if you get 2 +1 and 2 -1's you wont gain infamy of reknown, whereas if you get 2 +1 and 1 -1 you will gain reknown by 1

It also takes a wee while to register.

They cancel eachother out on the actual post, but on the little totals under your avatar too?

It is not linear.

chadz posted about it when it first came you - if you can find that.

Not all + votes make your renown go up, and not all down votes make your infamy go up - think it depends on who they are from.

Also, those of us with a lot of renown have little to no effect on each other's renown anymore we've noticed.

why do you want a higher rank?

i mean, it seems like you were not that active so far in the forum > wich isnt a problem...but the most guys dont care about their rank in the forums (for sure there are some exceptions  ) > so why do you care about it?

I recommend judging no one by renown/infamy but by the content of the posts they make.
It's easy to get the renown/infamy where you want it by writing stuff people like or hate.

IMO it should get removed. That way people would be more honest with what they think.
I'm pretty sure some stay away from criticizing because they don't want their renown lowered.
And that has a negative effect on the tweaking and balancing of this game.

You might think that someone with a much higher renown than infamy and vice versa is proactively trying to receive only renown or infamy.
But that may be wrong. Some are indeed trolls and ass-lickers but others are just naturally loved or hated.

You might think that someone with equally much renown and infamy doesn't care about it.
But that may also be wrong. It may just be that they write fail posts not getting the likes/dislikes they want.

Irregardless, ignore rank, as it is used for basically just one thing (two if you count useless e-peen), just keep on posting regularly and enjoy the forums as is.
