I never got the point of these games.
I mean, what's the point in shooting things that can't fight back? where's the challenge?
To each his own, I guess. 
it's an hunting game , you are the predator and it's not easy as it seems , you won't see so much fauna if you are not checking droppings , footsteps and such.
i spent 1 hour following a fucking male deer , a damn coyote made it flee so i had hard times trying to figure out where he fled at that speed.
i like fighting back too , all arma series are awesome , same as DayZ but i don't like zombies and vampires , too bad Arma 2 pvp is not so cool , in that case i prefer CQ games like Rainbow Six series , Ghost Recon , even Cs.
give it a try , if you are patient enough you could enjoy this game.
