Ahoy,
how about reducing shortswords from 1 slot to zero?
They are not that mighty but a good sidearm for ranged chars.

This make the late medieval Crossbowman playable ( shortsword bolts arbalest and shield)
Roar the battlecry when charging into melee,
but stay calm and keep your silence,
when aiming for a final and deadly shot.

As it is, most short swords are worse than a rondel dagger if you got a shield. And they are horribly underused. I say yes.

They would be good if armour values were a bit lower  (~10)  , but again why would you use them over the scimitars if you swing or the high tier stabbing swords if you stab.

I agree for rebalance, haven't seen anyone using shortswords for now. Reduce to 0 or maybe make new system (0.5 slots, 1.5 slots equipment) to allow more interesting weapon combinations? Any change would be nice to make them more used and have more variety  of builds

Add 2-3 piercing damage to the stab of all shortswords, reduce cut damage on swings by 1. Fix'd.

Justification: Short Swords are meant for stabbing, not slashing.

Stabbing as it is is horribly hard to land, and if ye land a stab most time it doesnt deal significant damage...

So even with PS5 (as i have it atmo) and a broad short sword, you need to stab your foe 4-5 times before he drops.

Also making short sword 0 slots would mean 2 slot shield + 2 slot polearm hoplites would be able to use a 0 slot short sword sidearm, like real hoplites (?).

Also, remove the short sword, replace it with the short arming sword.
Justification:
Short Arming Sword
weapon length: 81
weight: 1
difficulty: 7
speed rating: 103
weapon length: 81
thrust damage: 26 pierce
swing damage: 26 cut
slots: 1

Short Sword
weapon length: 81
weight: 1
difficulty: 6
speed rating: 102
weapon length: 81
thrust damage: 26 pierce
swing damage: 26 cut
slots: 1

The one extra speed isn't worth it. So remove the short sword, keep the nicer looking short arming sword and add a nice mid tier (short nordic war sword area) longish 1h ^^

That is an option fella.

Allthough, by shortswords, i meant every weapon with shortsword in its name
like broad shortsword, which has 5 more length und 2 more cut damage along with extra speed.

Sorry for the fuzzy description.
We need more Builds that orientate after real fighting styles, like the above mentioned hoplite.

Just seeing twohanders in have armor on the field is boring.

Just allow one quiver per ranged. They do not deserve a buff. Short sword are too powerful for being one sloted.
Ranged only want weapon good enough to kill lightly armored agiwhorse and for this shortswords are perfect and to maintain their totally unrealistic ammo count.

That suggestion isnt bad referring to the quivers.

1 Quiver per player is ok, but then we need ammo carts where can refill it for gold or multiplier.

Anyhow back to topic,
yes we want to melee,
we want to melee with a REALISTIC
Equipment loadout and equal chances.

Rangeds lack WPF
Hybrids lack WPF
COMPARED to specialized Melee characters.

and since 0 slot weapons are so super short you have a hard day having the slightest
chance meleeing.

as for realism:
A flamberge being twice as fast slashing around,
as an archer with a long dagger?
Srsly? That is a balancing Fail!

So I want grappling hooks or lasos to bundle or bring archeis closer to even chances.
Also where is written that archer needs more than 150 wpf in bows. Just hybridise a bit. If you want to be effective in melee you need to invest in it.
