So since I'm married I can have "my wife play" strategus?  What a great deal, getting another copy of Warband tonight.

Why not just make a rule, one CD key per MAC address.  No exceptions...

If you only have one computer, you shouldn't need more than one Warband account on it.  Make your friend, brother, SO play on your account.  There's no down side to this (aside from they can't play in strategus on an alt, but they can't play when you're playing anyways)

This is a bad idea, every network device has a different MAC address, so if you connected to wifi or Ethernet, you'd be stuck doing just that one way or face a ban or it wouldn't let you play.  Filtering by IP is also bad, because people change modems, which gives a new IP, travel or visit friends' houses.  So basically there is no good way to stop anything but the most obvious multi accounting.  From a developers point of view, such stringent rules would reduce sales.  Now the crpg team doesn't care about Warband sales, but when they go standalone, every multi account is another sale.

The best thing for games is to make multi-accounts not matter as much, like EVE or any of the other multitude of games.
I'm not normal and I don't pretend so, my approach is pretty much a bomb crescendo.
Death is a fun way to pass the time though, several little bullets moving in staccato.
The terror of my reign will live on in infamy, singing when they die like a dead man's symphony.

I was referring not to the network device MAC address, but the originating computer's MAC address, which is easy enough to spoof if you really wanted to.  I just can't see that many people going to that length to have an extra char on the strategus overview, and if they do so be it.  But it's something that's easy enough to detect a MAC address by someone hosting a game server.

I agree with ToD (surprise surprise), would be better if multi account wasn't as big of a deal as it is now.  It currently is a very big advantage to be able to control 2 chars on the strat map.  You're twice as efficient.

I'm sorry but you are confusing some things here. There is no such thing as a computer MAC address. Only network devices have a MAC address.

But it's something that's easy enough to detect a MAC address by someone hosting a game server.
The MAC address is not part of the HTTP request bewtween the client'S browser and the web server. You cannot access it if the user doesn't use some kind of tool to tell it to you.

Actually all computers do effectively have individual MAC addresses because they must have an internal network device themselves to connect to the modem or router.

However MAC addresses can be easily spoofed or hidden and i think by default someone external to my LAN will only ever see my router's MAC address and not the MAC addresses of the individual network cards in the computers.
