Blocking with throwing weapon.

Awkay so as you know to block with a throwing weapon you need to press "X". It basically turns the throwing weapon into melee weapon but the thing is... why can't you block without turning it into melee weapon? Right mouse button is useless in throwing mode (it only cancels throw but same would be done by the block).

For example in WFaS mod you could block with a rifle without turning it into melee weapon with "X". It would be useful against at least cavalry or in "surprise" situations.

Discuss the thing.

Yes, buff their survavibility so they can throw the few ammo they have before dying horribly. I think they are the weakest class in cRPG (and dont give me the example of Fin, hes a master, not the common man) and need some advantages.

I completely agree, the amount of time's I have pressed 'X' as a thrower for it to fuck me over and get me killed because it didn't even change.

Always happens as i'm just about to be hit by someone.

I think you are just about too late with pressing x then.  :)

I agree because sometimes X bugs and delays to switch to melee.

Porta, pressing X simply doesn't work most of the time you're in a hurry :D

This is a REALLY good idea IMO. And probably not that hard to code (I hope so).
To give a small punishement tho, maybe add 0,5 sec delay for blocking after a weapon has been thrown. To give the player some time to draw another weapon and prevent melee block-throw-block fighting :D

Has been suggested a few times already and been ignored as many times :P

Still, would be awesome to get it if possible.

Ive never had a problem with it, And lately ive been throwing my lances around on EU2 quite often.
Are you sure you dont just wait too long or maybe double tap x, ive had that a few times where i switched to melee and back by accident?  :?

Anyhow, i dont see any problems with it being implemented allthough it might take the "excitement" away from having an epic kite-x-boomheadshot combos, making it a bit stale.  :)

I vote yes but I fear this will lead to even more facehug throws and with damage already dealt it could be OP as hell.
But shielder can block already  :?

Uhhh it's pretty obvious why they don't let you block without changing to melee mode.  In throwing mode you can be bumped (even though you pretty much have to insert your dick up to their belly before they get bumped, but that's for another complaint thread) if you make it so you can block without going to melee, they'd have to remove the bump to ranged.

They wouldn't have to. You can block and bumping a thrower without "melee mode" enabled is a different story but usually it's just about this 1 or 2 blocks in "throwing mode" that save your life. If thrower in throwing mode who blocks gets bumped it's his fault that until that time he didn't manage to change to melee thingy. Also it's tits to tits situation that you are talking about. bumps only when facehugging. If I stay 1 meter away and try to hit and thrower blocks, he will block.

Ideally bumps shouldn't happen unless the thrower is actively trying to draw his weapon back. Same for other ranged.

At any rate, I would settle for just having less wonky mode switching on throwing weapons. The transition should be nearly instant, and there should be clear and immediate visual feedback as to which mode the weapon is in.

I have played thrower for a few gens now and I agree with crazy cracks. it's your fault if you are trying to throw into someone's face at point blank range. perception of your opponent's proximity gives you more than enough time to hit x and switch to melee mode unless you are retarded or are blind playing on a Braille monitor where you rub your face on the screen to feel what's on it. I apologize for any offense, I have consumed too much whiskey!
