BÖC gets a lot of flak from the metal community, I think it's hip to hate them or something.

Haters gonna hate... Fuck 'em. If you can hate the band that made this song you're an idiot. BÖC rules!

It's ok if you only listen to them from time to time :D. These are not Smoke On The Water/Sweet Child o Mine level of annoying (to me at least).

And BÖC - Don't Fear The Reaper is the one of those 3 I have listened very rarely. I have listened and played the living crap out of Nothing Else Matters (can't really say I enjoy that song anymore). Stairway To Heaven is annoying in the sense that every other wannabe metal douche knows only that song from the mighty Zeppelin... Kind of shame that some people don't explore the music more than just getting the ultimate hit song from bands and just ignore everything else. You don't know shit about Zep if that's the only song you ever heard from them... Still very, VERY important part of rock history and an amazing song in every way.

Well, that's like your opinion, man :D. That's not the worst cover song out there tho. I like mister Morpheus' singing but the band plays that song in a way it's not meant to be played. They went too much "melodeath" on this one. Even with the screams and lower tuned guitars this doesn't sound as heavy as the original one :D. I'll tell you why. The heaviness is in the dynamics, killer attack (fucking smash those strings with the pick!! Then palm mute the note so it get's silent before you hit the next one) and that base line. Not to mention Dio's vocals of course. One of the very few metal singers who didn't need to double or triple his vocals in studio. Small man but seriously powerful voice!

He loved to 'double' his voice though by lowering the volume of everyone else's amplifiers

I'm talking about recordingwise. Maybe he is mixed a tad loud yeah :P. Dio didn't have to double all his vocals in order to sound like that tho. Of course there's parts where he doubled or tripled his stuff to harmonize the lead vocals or some shit. Still the basic lead vocals are not doubled. As I said, a clear majority of lead singers (clean vocals) have to at least double everything when they're recording :D.
