I feel you I'm actually 7k MMR but volvo matchmaking is stupid and I get horrible teammates every time that throw the game so I'm sitting at 3k MMR, what can I do, I can't solo win the games. I've made 16 alts so far all ranked 3k MMR so obviously there is something horribly wrong with volvos system. I'm sure if I make another million alts one is bound to be placed in my correct MMR, which is 8k btw haha got you there right, did you really think i was some 7k mmr trench tier garbage

I lol'd, because that's how a lot of people sounded like when I searched "average MMR" on other forums.

Did you start at 5000 mmr?

Nah, I started at ~4100, then I went down to about ~3980. I didn't play anymore since like 2 months though. Raising it when only playing solo is kinda hard, even when playing fine in every game. It's also not possible to check other people's mmr so I never know if others in my team are as "good" as I are. Or did that change, so you may see mmr of others but friends as well?
Though of course I don't think rating says that much, but if someone is on 1100 after some games, where did he actually start if he loses most games? At 1500? That's pretty low though...

I doubt the average is below 3000 though, considering there are many players above 5000 as well.

he went 0-15 then when we started winning despite his feeding he ended at 3-19. We won with 35 kills 56 deaths. Gotta love Ursa + DP ulti + Tinker machines to make them run

You started at ~4100 Miwiw? Had you been playing long before the ranked matchmaking came out or? Maybe I don't play enough online games anymore but it just seems odd that after my ~250 hours of Dota 2 and I still wouldn't even be considered average.

Well people will always make up reasons for MMR if they don't like it Same with say crpg if the devs didnt release certain info then people would just make it up to how they think it works


From what ive read it starts at 3k but takes into account all your unranked games. So because everyone sucks at the start if you do your ranked early ish you will probably end up lower than 3k.

I had some terrible runs + i suck so i got 1650 but im up to 1791 so its a looong road up to normal levels

Over 90% of my games were played before mmr started. ;)
Got over 1200 hours on dota2 (from which are 1000 played, the rest was watching tournaments. ~900 of those 1000 shouldn't be rated games).

So ye, it took my unrated games into account so I started higher because those first 10 rated games didn't matter for me in any case.
Still I guess even if I was to start a new account now and directly go rated (once its possible) I wouldn't get below 3k I think.
I also got two other (anonymous) accounts, and on those I got about 3,5k rating cause they are accounts to try other stuff with heroes. On my main account I always played serious.

You have to consider lots of people played Dota before or one of the other mobas like LoL or HoN and those started with a pretty big advantage. Hell, even if you're a good SC2 player you probably had a pretty easy time starting in dota.

Same, pretty much first competitive game of this type, I never played any right click to move type games, not even strategy games (except for some AoE2 super casually)

Competitive SC2 looks far more difficult imo.

Except SC is just down to number of clicks you make. If you have a build strategy and you don't keep up with the insane amount of tasks then your fucked.

Dota I think it a little more strategy based with more variables to consider.

Any suggestions for other good semi-carries for when he gets nerfed? I do notice when I watch Merlini that Slark gets banned all the time. I was thinking Juggernaut and maybe learning how to play Ember Spirit.
