Obviously win count as a measure of one's capability is very innacurate once they're out of the newbie stage. But like I said in my example, the difference between a 10 wins guy (provided he's not a smurf, dota/lol pro) and a 100 wins guy is pretty huge, even though the 100 wins guy still sucks.

Haha, comparing wins at match start, some of my friends do it all the time: "oh noes the opponent has 200 more wins, it's gg".
I hope most people decide to hide it.

I just keep my eyes open for a ridiculous difference, like me with my 107 wins, get somebody with 1000, then there is a 50'er in the game as well.

That's a bit too much difference, yeah?

Not really? I've seen pretty bad "1000+" players.

Still, if we compare how people should be matched with similar experience and playtime of the game, it's a bit weird.

I know I've seen people with more wins that were actually worse, way worse than me, I didn't think that's possible at first lol.

The real question is, what's the benefit of knowing the difference?

Benefit? Not much, I'd just like to have more insight about how matchmaking does(n't) work.

Of course Valve doesn't like that.

To be honest, matchmaking works a lot better than people think. Take me for example, after 250 wins in around 480 games I'm still in the Normal Pool, or as I like to call it, The Vanguard Pool.

Thovex uses his alt Maguuma to play with scrubs like me, after about 20 wins his alt made it into a higher pool than me. The matchmaking isn't done by win rate or KDA, it kind of watches the way you play and puts you in the right pool.

People complain about the enemy having hundreds of wins more than them but as I play more and more, I realise that it doesn't matter. I've had plenty of games where someone on my team has 800 - 1000 wins and they are utter shit and build Vanguard on every fucking hero.

Then why did I have a game with me 330 wins and my team having 3 ppl 10-30 wins and one with 700, enemy team straight with 400-500. The next game was everyone with 400-700 but me and another guy with 330. That's when I play alone.

When I play with a rl friend who has about 200 wins, everything is more balanced.

But honestly everything went better since last patch. The patch before that was more awful after all.

It doesn't matter later. However when you are between 0-200 wins and get matched with people 500+ then it matters a lot as usually at that point most people are still learning heroes ect.

Ones that always insta-lock the same thing over and over?

I got 107 wins, and I barely experienced half of the hero pool.

Trying to always test out something else, though

What people with 200 wins are still learning heroes?

A lot actually. And a lot also learning other things like warding, let alone pulling and stacking, tri-lanes ect ect. Most people only play a select hero pool so it means you just eventually learn what other heroes do through experience.

Well if people stopped insta picking Drow and Riki every game then they wouldnt still be learning heroes 400 games in. I'm exactly 500 games in, and looking at the Hero pool there's only 8 or 9 heroes that I've never played in an online game, there's also a lot of heroes that I've only played a couple of times but most of them are heroes which I don't like the role of. But even with the heroes that I never play, I still know their role, their abilities, what lane is good and most of their core items.

Maybe I just looked at more hero guides and tutorials than anyone else.
