Played tons of Dota 2 with a few others. Mostly Tidehunter (refresher orb lol) and sniper plus a bit of shadow fiend and tried about 15 others on and off. Have loved it so far but alas I have been parted from the game as I am now in India and the nearest server gives me about 500 ping haha.

As for those questioning how easy it is to start new. Naturally people rage but they are usually Russian so you won't feel bad ;) Also the matchmaking is pretty good so the majority of the time you do find people of a similar level. Though naturally you sometimes get unfair pairings. Regardless it'll take a while to learn things and even now after 200 hours or so I'm constantly learning new things. For the longest time I didn't know denying with shadow fiend gave him souls

I have played HoN since the beta and im still playing, cant seem to make the transition to LoL or Dota 2. Those game just dont have the troll potential and are too kid-friendly for my taste

Dont care if those elitist pricks think lol is easier and for noobier people than dota, still having much more fun with it than i had when i gave dota a go.

I'm not that much of a DOTA player, in fact I played 0 matches while I have it, but this made me laugh.
Game isn't that newcomer friendly, and I don't want to join in and let my team down because I don't know 2323764278 things I should instantly know.

I'm thinking about picking up this game.

Minimal MOBA experiences by playing SMITE a bit while it was in BETA, and I was really a hit/miss kinda player. I either annihilated or got owned.

So, I trust you guys more than the internet articles. What character would you suggest for a total beginner that can still be effective, maybe kind of an all-rounder, or really straightforward to use.

Even better question; What did you begin with?

I tried Skeleton King because people suggest it a lot, but oh god that seemed too bland and non-flexible. I like variety.

The fact that there are a crapton of heroes in this game makes it hard for me to test on my own.

Try Lich, is my begin hero, really fun, easy nukes and can wreck shit.

Just don't pick drow like the super scrubs.

I would suggest reading up on simple guides, then just jump in it. Try to stay away from the most farm dependant heroes though  I probably randomed like 50 matches too just to learn heroes

I played my first match of Dota, ever.

Listened to your advice, I tried Lich first in a bot match, was very enjoyable to play, so I thought I'll try it in action.

Game starts, but I did a nice fail and left single draft in. Therefore I had a limited option, I picked Lion.
Started quickreading/sucking up as much information as possible, also got a bit of an advice from my team.

Turned out to be very straightforward and fun to use.
(I still died too much because of overextending, experimenting, skills not working the way I thought, lack of knowledge. Trial 'n Error baby.)

I had NO idea what the F I'm doing almost during the whole game. Was good though.

inb4 I'm a noob. I know. If not for that Weaver holding hands carrying me through, we would've had a tougher match.
