I've watched the whole segment live, my wife being sick so I was up 5am and on, tbh did cringe on some parts just felt uncomfortable.

First of all all Dota personalities must agree on one thing, do they want the "professional" look which Valve atleast on their events wants to present, or they want to be a "cool" niche teen community that laughs at rape jokes and disabled porn, the two just don't mix period.

Sure the production on chinese part (KeyTV) was shit but it's still a 3 mil. dollar tournament and you bring up a board and open the cast with porn jokes??? They guy was way out of line, you could see on some others reactions and yes he did try to make a shit production better but ended up flaming players and calling people bottom bitch etc. Don't care if they are his friends or not cut to the break. He went in so hard even said himslef I'll probably get fired or never work Dota again, something along those line and the guys just didn't give a shit and got into it way too much.

I'm about his age few years younger and tho I do find him entertaining some parts were way out of line and in his statement he did confirm he had altercations on some other events with Valve staff and said he won't work on Dota again. I don't want Dota to become a playground for "edgy" frustrated older men, leave that to CS:GO.

Bottom line, dude tought he was the boss and got bossed by a bigger boss. Wll not be missed.

Did you read his statement? If icefrog the man says be yourself you dont go against his wishes. He didnt really think he was the boss, he just did what he thought we, the audience of dota, would want to see, what we find entertaining so that the longs breaks are actually worth while sticking around for.

Its not about wanting to be cool or niche, its just what the general dota player enjoys. Everyone loves talking shit, its entertaining. Sure some jokes may seem inappropriate, but whatever. Everything outside of gaming/the internet is so damn PC now it gets frustratingly boring. If esports are to also take that route, i dont really see it appealing to much people in the future.

Valve… from my opinion treat all their employees amazingly. Infact so much so, some of them, may think they are... I hate to say it... better than you. Almost like they are somewhat conditioned over time. weird eh?

That coming from a guy who opens with disable porn jokes is hilarious.

But hey if Icefrog a dev guy that nobody knows how he looks or what he is all about says be yourself, k I'll go full retard, he was not hired by Icefrog, he was hired by Valve and Gabe saw his jokes and banter inapropriate and has every right to fire him on spot, same as the production crew. As I said I don't dislike the guy and find him a good host most of the time, but have no problem with him getting fired unlike the Reddit cyclejerk.

Im sure ice frog is in a lot of contact with the event hosters/managers, so if i was in James seat and the only thing i heard from anyone sort of higher up is from Ice frog himself saying be yourself, then id do my average show. The disabled porn joke was pretty light hearted and im sure the viewers liked it, its not like its out of the average twitch joke/remark.

I sporadically watched the last two seasons of Dream League and the first one James was "fired" during that one as well, when he came on as a guest panel the next year it was awkward and uncomfortable. He does the whole asshole schtick but I'm not sure it's just a schtick at this point. He was ripping into the other panelists in that "haha, I'm joking" way, he took it too far though and he was definitely stoned. I agree with Prpavi that at the very least they have a problem with whatever tone they are trying to set for the scene.
