About raids

What's the point with raids ? You just fight against army and not villagers ?
What do you loot ? Only gold, or gold, goods and weapons ?
Is there any restrictions ?

Yes you only fight army, and you can loot all the equipment defender has left at the end. For what is used in the battle itself i think the standard loot rule applies. Not sure though about the last thing.

I see a problem : once you've looted everything, why not attack again ? The remaining peasants  will be unarmed....

Exactly which is why just about everyone across most clans want raids to be changed or removed.

No matter how long you guys cry - I will not give in to dumbing strategus down because some people just want battles. If all you want are battles, then play cRPG, not strat. There are other people who like advanced gameplay.

if your a supernerd you can have just the troops inside the castle armed and have the rest on you, and when someone sieges you wait untill it says if it's a raid or siege and then you reinforce with the troops/gear necessary.

If your a supersupernerd you can actually have your castle undefended to force people sieging it since raiding would be useless.

Well, it means we have to do some more micro, but its for a good cause.

For population you don't have to pay, the raid part will help reduce the stacking of population. (if not for raiding i would have put 1000-1500 pop in all my villages, simply because i wouldn't have to worry about defense anymore, that way i could manage 10 fiefs all by myself)

To counter a raid you make sure you have equal equipment and troop count. If someone raids you, you won't waste equipment. 2-3 hours after attack if shows if it will be a raid or a siege, so you plan accordingly. If it is a raid, you don't do anything, if its a siege, you can put more gear in it. This way you don't needlessly lose gear, yet you can use population in case you get attacked.

Raiding is a fine mechanic, it keeps people from putting 5000 troops into each fief population and getting free upkeep on a huge defence force.

With raiding you gotta be careful about investing in nice gear for population tickets, cuz any gear can be stolen by raiding. Which is fair cuz they are FREE tickets. Easy come easy go.

Sounds like it would be easier to have someone with all the gear, who is easy to get a hold of, stay inside the keep at all times with the gear and just make all troops population.  If it's a raid then they'd get away with your gold, but with no troops you wouldn't need to leave any in the fief.  Make that person the fief owner and they can grab any tax money as it comes in.  This shouldn't be too hard for larger clans with a ton more people than fiefs.

This thread makes me want to start a "strats dumbest mechanics" thread where we can all post our favourite dumb strat shit that will never get fixed because "intended" and "sorry we are working on another game now"

Good all-around tactic, not too much time-consuming.

Basic strategy calls for having at least enough troops (and not population) to repel one wave, so you have one day to decide to create supply lines to your attacked fiefs so it can defend itself for more time. This or just stacking humongous troops number and gear. But most of the time, this cannot be done in ALL important fiefs (castle/cities) so it may be a good idea to have a very strong centralized fief with easy access to other more modestly manned fiefs that can be resupplied when you KNOW where the enemy is striking.

it usually often takes 5 hours before the numbers correct themselves (reinforcment time), then it would change to 0 because there are no troops.
