In a distant future I will have loompoints to invest. What shield should I trying to get?

- I want to be able to use it on a horse.
- I want it to be fast for melee
- I want it to be durable for siege and duels

It seems to me it comes down to three shields to pick from:

Elite cav shield
Knightly Kite shield
Knightly heater shield

Now the first one is cheaper, round and a bit more brittle. Still people recommend this over the two  heavier, more expensive ones. Is the Cav shield strong enough after being +3 loomed?

If not, what its preferable; 2 extra armour points or 25 extra hit points on the two knightly shields? I realize the difference is miniscule and maybe the shape of the shield is more important. But which stat is more important of these two values?

Thanks for any input!

Out of those 3 shields, elite cav is best for mounted combat. You should also consider Plate Covered Round Shield. That's actually the best shield if you ask me, although stats aren't that impressive.

Against shield breaking weapons (Axes, Morningstar) there's no shield that will last long enough. Maybe Huscarl will suit you in that situation but don't expect it to live long against axe spammer. But against non shield breaking weapons, Plate Covered Round Shield will last a whole round despite its modest HP.

it is the same shit. i would take kinghtly heather shield cuz of style, altrough i have heather and elite cav both mw.
If some shield have more HP it have less armor,if some shield have more armor it have less HP,so it is the same thing.

if you don't mind the slots the Heavy kite shield all the way.

The normal kite shield is awesome too 91 speed is fine for a shield and it is bigger and has more hp than the knightly shields also less difficulty so you can use it earlier.

They are all good shields and all last a reasonable amount of time against non shield breaker weapons so just go with what you think looks best :D

The knightly heater shield is great for dueling. Length on the kite shields is good on horseback. Elite cav shield is the most balanced choice.

irl something shorted on the shuttle and laika overheated and died within a few hours of liftoff and for a brief while one could look up to the stars and see a light shooting across the sky that was actually a warm dog corpse slingshoting about the earth at thousands of miles per hour which was arguably humanity's greatest achievement so far

I like the knightly because it has the highest resist out of these shields and is 100 speed.  The secondary reason I like it is because I lance cav in 1st person, and the round shields take up way too much of my screen when I'm blocking.  I can see over the knightly heater a lot better.

Thanks. Lots of finer details that I might not have thought of like duelling and lancing in 1st person. :-)

Still haven't made up my mind but I know more about the difference of these 3 shields. I have given credit where it is due.

knightly heather for extreme sexyness.
I loot corpses of their golden teeth.
But he'll be around somewhere between Heaven and The Devil, because neither of them will take him in, and he'll be farting loudly and singing a filthy song.

i'll be there at around

I don't know how people tolerate the block stuns from 6kg and lighter shields. Lorden was stunning my Heavy Round shield (7.5 weight) with his Great Long Axe (3.8 weight) on every single held swing yesterday. Elite Cavalry Shield can be stunned by weapons as light as 2.8 kg (Glaive, Bec, all poleaxes, many 2h swords, etc). If it wasn't for block stun, I'd be using one of these lighter shields.

Get the elite cav shield, the extra width is important on foot.

The only weapon able to stun my shield is a bar mace. Using a +2 elite cav shield, currently have 7 shield skill. Last gen had 6 and still stun was unique to bar mace.

(Mauls probably would stun too, but they instead crushthrough for about 10%)

I haven't noticed it with long axe but I have been stunned occasionally by morningstars with a heavy round, which are same weight.

Must be the hold bonus that's the trick.

Only happens with held attacks to my knowledge. Morningstar also commonly stuns my heavy round shield.

Many axe/morningstar/poleaxe/bardiche users just see a shield and spam away to break it, so they won't stun you. But the skilled players hold their attack to force a stun for a "free" followup hit, which is often unblocked because people don't always recognize block stun in time.

I am nearly positive any weapon can stun a shield up to twice its weight, so I'm amazed so many Elite Cav users claim they are rarely block stunned, since many many weapons are 2.8 weight or higher. I only use the heavy round, so I haven't tested the Elite Cav myself.

I don't really notice, using an elite cav at the moment. Held overheads have a bonus to stunning blocks, which is pretty uncommon on battle.
