Problem with my headset

Posting this here because it's not related to cRPG. My headset microphone seems to capture both my voice as well as my computer sound output - basically records everything I say and everything I hear along with it as well.

It's not feedback, because it's the actual sound output playing.

Stereo mix is turned off, I also already tried reinstalling sound drivers and just using the default Windows 7 drivers. It's an onboard sound card.

It's got me thinking it might be some other software affecting that I once installed.. like Audacity, but I already uninstalled that so I'm out of clues. Also have Reason and Vegas installed but I doubt it's that.

Anyone got any clue what it might be or how to fix it? Been trying the whole day to fix it.

Oh also, 20k cRPG gold to anyone who solves this

I guess you're - unlike me - actually using the headphones, right?

Cuz I am using my headset microphone and the desktop speaker... that's why I ask. Well, that would be too obvious, huh?
Yea... nevermind. Just ignore me. Sorry I interrupted. My bad...

Bye.

What headset do you use? What program are you using to capture your output?

It is like mic and headhone clabe is mixed or joind maybe melted or something. Try inserting only the mic cable and make the test. and then only the headphone to see if mic is working wothout being plugged

have yougot windows 7?

It could be your microphone picking up your sound output as you have mentioned. I'm not sure if this would help, but here are my settings and I record fine on Reason and Cubase.

On my audio driver manager on the right (came with my laptop; VIA HD Audio Deck), I don't hear my mic, as the speaker output for it is set at 0 and muted.
(click to show/hide)
Stereo Mix is actually enabled for me, recording levels normal.

Maybe to clarify your problem you could post your settings as well?

I have the exact same settings. The problem is that the microphone captures both my voice and my sound output, as if the stereo mix was on.

Are your Default Devices set to your Microphone and your Speakers respectively and not your Stereo Mix?

not trying to record anything specific, but it is annoying trying to talk to people when they hear everything you hear
