This was actually somewhat of a hard choice for me, because in the end it really comes down to how someone plays that class. I have respect for the calvary that works as a team player, I don't respect the calvary that charges in and bumps their teammates to get a kill, resulting in teammate being killed.
Archers are fine, even in steppe armor I find that most times I won't be killed by a single arrow. Most of them aren't built for speed so when you get close they will put up a fight, even if they have 1 wpf.
Horse Archers are completely different. If you are a 2h or a shielder, without throwing weapons or an xbow all you can really do if you are by yourself is try to run away because if you try and close the distance all they will do is take a few gallops and they are always out of reach.
Pure throwers are dangerous and with a shield can be plain annoying. I did a throwing hybrid build and it can be extremely BS build. With power throw 8 and only 89 wpf I was easily able to take down a charging 2h by himself with throwing knives.
Polearms are interesting when used used by infantry, whether the offensive long halfted spiked dildo, or the defensive pike. Polearm is nice because you can make some nice strength or speed builds. Anyone who has seen Noobie_ATS go on a killing spree has seen what pokes can do.
I just started my first two hand build and going from spiked dildo to longsword, it's a pretty big change. Two handers are interesting in that you have to learn to manual block. More offense than defense but easily able to be killed.
TL;DR
Hate: Horse Archers.
My build: 18/21 2h
