All noob admins make mistakes every once in awhile. Ill let your little incident last night slide, but seriously, after sleeping on it, I wholeheartedly believe most admins need to get second and third opinions and also need to take in the general consensus of the players online before anything is done.
that principle should be applied to all scenarios from ALL admins.
Most of the time we
do consult each other and double-check our decisions when they would otherwise be solely calls of our own judgment. Stabbing through solid doors was determined to be an exploit, against the rules (not solely by the NA admins, mind you) for quite a while.
As for having to get the "general consensus of the players online", here is an example as to why that is not so good: Long ago, several young fellows decided it would be cool to play on a server by themselves. As a group, they decided that instead of playing they could just use an exploit to get free experience and gold while all sitting around doing nothing. At the time,
everyone online was following suit and by your token, that would have been absolutely fine. If an admin had come on to kick or ban them all, by your accounting the admin would have been in the wrong, whatever disproportionate and unearned gains those players had received. (Those guys, incidentally, received long-term bans after the fact, some of which lasted more than a month, because the devs do not want exploiting in their game).
The reason why this principle should not be applied to
all scenarios is that not all players are looking to follow the rules. Not all rule-abiding players are looking to review others' actions, or looking to make decisions at all that will influence the fate of another player. It's a silly notion. The game is here for the players, but the devs are the ones who handed down the rules. We, the admins, are here at their behest to make sure people follow those rules, whether the players want to or not. So, really, you can let this slide all you want, or not, because it doesn't matter. You broke the rules, got punished, and then got mad about it.
Don't be such a noob, don't break the rules.
P.S. Smoothrich is indeed a good admin
