If Mayans were good at predicting the future there would still be Mayans.

Typical Euro's always using more words and vowels than you need, thus leading us into this Global Warming trend we've been seeing.

Maybe if you fuckers stop using so many extra vowels we could save a few million trees every year from wasted paper?

In all seriousness, the Imperical measurement is fucking retarded and I wish America as a country would get off it.  Our military and scientists use Metric, but we still use Imperical in business and teach our kids to use it...And the date format doesn't make sense on paper, but it's about the sounding of it.

I would not criticize the fahrenheit scale because it makes as much sense as the celsius one. Celsius based himself on water, Fahrenheit did the exact same thing with some weird chemical mix.

Best is Kelvin. 0 degrees marks absolute zero at which there is nothing, like a baws. No negative numbers - none of that bullshit.

But Kelvin is just applied Celsius. K = C + 273.15

Mayans couldn't be worse at organising a proper apocalypse. If Germans would have done this we'd be gone for good now without any delay.

Moreover the whole concept that the Maya were predicting anything for today is a huge, overly-sensationalized misconception.

But Kelvin is just applied Celsius. K = C + 273.15

Search for the SI unit of temperature, and you'll find out it's Kelvin (K). It's the one all scientists use, mainly physicists and chemists - due to the fact they work with extremely low temperatures and it is easier to work with such low numbers using it.

Kelvin invented the termodynamic scale that everyone in the scientific field uses currently. All experts begun using this new scale when they realised it was much better for their purposes. For instance, the universal gas and liquid law requires absolute value |º|. If we face a negative number with the Celsius scale we cannot work with it, however the Kelvin scale gives the absolute value and allows for such doing.

On a quick note, Celsius and Kelvin are just like degrees and radians. You are always gonna be told there are 360º in a circle. If you do further mathematics you'll be told there are 2π radians in a circle, and that there is a magic with those when applying them to trigonometry. People tend to use the more comfortable units for their work.

The Kelvin unit is the same size as the Celsius, it's just shifted to get rid of negative values.

Also in many fields of physics and chemistry, 273 degrees is negligible. Of course, in many other fields of chemistry and physics, and especially near the absolute 0, a tenth of a degree is enormous.

Finally, if someone told me this thread would become interesting after I read the first message, I wouldn't have believed them.

In case someone doesn't know, it wasn't a world's end predidiction the Mayans made, it was just the end of their callendar. Supposedly they'd have to write a new callendar as the old one came to an end. My sister went to mexico last year and talked around, it's not a big deal to those who are in touch with that culture.

Mayans didn't predict the world was ending. It was just some "historians" interpreting the worlds end because of the calendar.

Which is why I wouldn't trust anything they say on the history channel because they tend to stretch things to get more veiwers.
