Vertical Sync (and what's the .exe?)
« on: December 03, 2012, 12:36:08 pm »
+1
In trying to figure out which .exe is ultimately being used so I can apply nvidia control panel settings, I've come across confusion. My guess as to a list of possible candidates includes:

mb_warband.exe
mb_warband_old.exe
/modules/crpg/WSE/mb_warband_old.exe
/modules/crpg/WSE/WSELoader.exe
cRPGLauncher.exe

So far I've been changing the settings for all these at a time... any help in making that more efficient would be appreciated.

In other words, is there any way to turn ON vertical sync, so as to avoid the screen tearing?  :D

In My Documents\Mount&Blade Warband\crpg_beta_config.ini change
Code: [Select]
bForceVSync=falseto
Code: [Select]
bForceVSync=true

Thanks, just tried it but it appears the screen tearing is still there. It is supposed to eliminate that when set to true theoretically right?

Are any of my listed .exe's the correct one? I'd love to try through that method as well.

No, you should apply settings to crpg_beta.dll, but I don't think the NVIDIA control panel allows that.

You're right.  :cry:

So the function doesn't work? I mean vertical sync, when applied via the config.ini. Or maybe I'm missing something about how it works...

Are you running the game in fullscreen mode? It should work if you are.

Ok well now I'm tipping. I was in full screen mode when it wasn't working, but since you mentioned it I just tried in windowed mode by pressing alt+enter, and I swear the tearing disappeared. I tried toggling with the in menu option for full screen as well, same results. Tearing when full screen, no tearing windowed. What gives? Am I being trolled.  :(

I don't have control over the refresh rate in windowed mode; it uses what your desktop is running at.
I'll have a look at the vsync option to see if it's bugged.

the game appears as crpg_beta.dll in the task manager.
I suppose that the only dependent .exe is the cRPG launcher.

Normally, nvidia and ati managers apply the settings to programes which are then automatically linked to that which the parameters is apply.
(I think  :mrgreen:)

If the dll is dependent of the cRPG launcher, then you should apply the nvidia settings for the launcher.

What the!? Well I have, and the problem remains. Maybe if I remove the launcher from being affected by the control panel at all..... update forthcoming!

I'dunno man.... I'dunno... setting it to "Application Controlled" left it pretty bad and tear-y. I tried all the other available settings for good measure; off, on, adaptive, and adaptive half refresh rate. Now maybe I'm too sleep deprived and seeing shit, but I feel like that last option made a bit of difference and makes for less tearing, so that's what I've kept it on for now. Of course while leaving the config.ini option to true. I'd also tried all these settings before learning of .ini, so both variations have been exhausted.

Anyway, thanks for all the help. Hopefully there'll be some answers at some point, either a bug that can be fixed or figuring out what I'm doing wrong. But the key lies in the discrepancy between full screen and window mode, you can trust me, I'm not an expert. Or even a layman. Just common rabble. kthxgnite

BREAKING NEWS BULLETIN
I just had a brainfart and it told me to set the in game fps limiter to 1 below where I currently had it, 60, which is also my desktop refresh rate. So I set it to 59 and with the adaptive half refresh rate still in tact, I think it got rid of the tearing. But I'm not sure. I don't know what's real anymore. Too. Tired. Will experiment more tomorrow, with my sexuality. Then, if there's time, I'll fuck around a bit more with this stuff and see what happens. Please someone steal my computer and amenities in the meantime.

Exactly so. Continuing on from last night, and seeing your post this morning, trying any setting other than 60 seems to have fixed the tearing. So I went up to 61 instead of dropping to 59 for the moment and it's looking good. This is currently still with the adaptive half refresh rate on nvidia control panel though, and I feel like I see some slight tearing once in a while, but that's not beyond just my being crazy. I will try the different settings again though and see which one if any are perfect. Thanks.

-edit-
Or not. Playing for a while now, still seeing some kind of warp/tearing going on. It's different though. More of a full screen thing with the tearing happening in different areas at different time depending on motion, as opposed to the first kind wear it was just sort of a horizontal line kind of centered moving up and down. Who knows.
