Weapons/shield sheathed weight effect

Hello,

There is a few thing i am wondering about the impact of wearing sheathed weapons/shields on your character.

I believe it slows you down because of the weight but doesn't affect weapons proficiency like armor does. But how much does it slow you down ? Is wearing 20 Kg of armor and a shield of 5 Kg sheathed on your back is the same thing as wearing 25 Kg of armor ? Same for throwing weapons ? crossbows ?

I noticed that between holding your weapon or sheathing it there was a huge difference of speed. But it is maybe because the length of it is no longer counted in the equation, as the longer a weapon is the more it will slow you (has been demonstrated in a thread here).

A thing which may be complete bullshit: Today on siege i was trying out my Jarids (4Kg) and played with it for few rounds. Later on i switched to Heavy Throwing Axes (4Kg) and noticed a significant difference in my movement speed, i was a lot faster. It could be the fact that i was on a different map on different ground but i really felt lighter, also when sheathing Heavy Throwing Axes you can't see it anymore. It is hidden in your mystery pocket and therefore may be out of the current space-dimension and not slowing you down.

So does anyone know how does these thing work ? And is the mystery pocket real ?

Regards,

GuiKa

Putting a shield on your back will considerably slow you down (even more than using it). Try putting an arena shield on your back and you'll immediately see the difference.

Weapons don't work the same, they only slow you down because of their weight. And when you have one in your hands, you are also slowed down more the longer your weapon is.

I believe that the weight of all your items affects your speed in the same way.
BUT also you get additionally slowed down depending on what you have in your hands (your animation of running).
1) Empty hands, 1h, 1h + shield, 2h/1h (like morningstar, longsword etc), bows, throwing - no penalty.
2) 2H - some penalties.
3) Polearm, xbows - even more penalties. Or maybe less. I don't know.
You can see the difference in animations when you run with these types of weapons, so I think it really depends on animation (some people say it also depends on the weight and length of your weapon, not sure about this).
So:
- You would run faster using Heavy Bastard Sword (weight 2) than Two Handed Sword (weight 2) because of different animation.
- Sheathing your shield doesn't make you run faster (doesn't change the animation of your hands while running)
- Sheathing your 2h, polearm, xbow and such - does make you faster.
- The difference between throwing axes and jarids might be if you use it in melee mode (1h for axes and polearm for jarids). If not, then it must be because of the length of jarids, I guess.

PS: note that any sheathing/unsheathing slows you down for a second, you should't consider it as actual slowing in the long run.

I can't be the only one to get a giggle out of this.

I regularly sheath my crossbow at the start of a match because of a noticable speed boost in getting ahead. Helps me get the good ranged spots before the others create a clustercuss trying to all jump onto that stack of logs at the same time!

Total weight of everything affects run speed. Certain situations arise that further reduce run speed, such as weapon length/animations stated above or having a shield on your back.

This is the first I've had mention of it, so I doubt it. Strength limits how heavy armor you can wear by having difficulty requirements.

A lot of people say that strength reduce the armor's speed penalty, i don't know if it's true but if i remember well someone tested that and prove strength doesn't do anything.

But that's so much a popular though that i'm not sure D:

Thanks for your answers guys i hope someone will do the maths.
