It's like fast food, it serves a purpose but it's tasteless.
Nowadays we have another layer between porn and actual girlfriend (or prostitute, for those who are into that thing). It's called cyber prostitute aka camwhore. Cheaper than actual thing but better than porn.
Works only if you don't have a girlfriend at the moment (or she will get super mad if she finds out what you're doing online).
Five years ago I was trying to get into that business, was working on software but then realized that mafia controls that... still I predict that it will surpass pron very soon. People get lonely these days, we're detached. Many need a soulmate but are too scared to go out and look for it. That's why those sites are growing.
