SimCity 5

I had my hopes...

No more. Looks like SimCity 4 is going to remain the best city managment game for another decade.

I thought they would grow a brain and understand that in a real city, the mayor does not build every goddamn thing... Yet that kind of stupidity is still in. They are literally implementing everything that was terrible in Societies and going away from the awesome ideas that were there from the beginning, but never make it in such as elections or a more realistic decision process. Every signal shows they are making a "myCity" game where you control, or rather design everything yourself. Now you have to place every apartment yourself. How was drawing a zone and watching your sims building the stuff they decided to build there by themselves so bad ? Doing everything yourself is unrealistic, time consuming, boring and will always end up with cities entirely made up of 3 different buildings. /rant

Other than that, it mostly looks cool, especially the multiplayer thing. If the gameplay and mechanics are not too bad, maybe I'll try it. Origin though, eeek.

Edit : ho wait, was confused by some videos that did not show things like they work most of the time. It doesn't look that bad here :

Don't really fancy getting an EA "Sim" type game now. I expect it will just be like a sandbox city designer without much strategy or depth. Plus I don't want Origin

I expect it will be full of DLC's that ruin the overall experience too

don't feel bad about pirating EA games

Also, still looks that the areas you can put down are a lot more predefined than it's predecessors. Doesn't look like you can change the size of it at all.

I wouldn't feel bad about pirating an EA game but if it really is good enough I might buy it. I already got Origin running in what is basically a lightweight VM so for me they can spy the shit out of nothing. They can even put viruses, I won't give a fuck. And I'm kinda hooked on management games, playing the same game for nearly 10 years now is getting old, literally. The DLC's might be a real problem if they push the vanilla game to lack content, but I most often don't even care, I'm not the kind of player that needs to know I have the "complete" game (but I still don't like a game with a lack of content).

Looks like it can get boring pretty fast. :?
Just pirate it. EA mainly recycles its own shit while doing as little work as possible.

I was sceptical at the beginning, mainly cuz of the rather small size of the tiles you gonna get to create your city...

...but after watching this 4hours-gameplay, I actually placed a pre-order for the Limited Edition

http://new.livestream.com/accounts/2987316/events/1902153

The really cool thing is that the small size of your tile gives the whole thing another edge imo. You have to check for the wealth of your people and create space for the certain kind of people you wanna attract depending on where you place the focus of your city.
Wanna do a Las Vegas, you gonna need high wealth people, you're going for industry, then you need middle wealth people and the working population aaand create a high educational standard to keep polution in check. Well, and so on really.

Overall the gameplay footage showed me a really fun, easy to get in but hard to get high, kind of Sim City and I am pretty sure that I gonna have a blast with it.
And then there is the regional and global "multiplayer". You gonna actually ex- and import stuff from the region or world. You can setup trade with other players. And not just "goods" but even export your poo to another city and save yourself from sewage but in return take care of your neighbours garbage and stuff like that... I really like this idea.

So, I was wondering who else will be playing Sim City 4 and maybe if we can try to get into the same region to cooperate? I don't really know how exactly it's working and if there even is the possibility to play "with friends" but I sure hope so.
So, anyone?

Will probably play this just to see how it actually plays.  I think there's a good chance it could be a decent time sink but not on the same scale as 4.

I doubt you'll be able to pirate this game.

With it being multiplayer only essentially since you have to have a online connection at all times and can't play any kind of Single Player mode it's gonna be hard/impossible (Not sure if impossible). Not only that but it's a Origin game and Origin cracks have not been around for nearly as long as steam cracks so that just makes it a little harder.

Game looks good, but I refuse to support EA.

You don't really get to choose how much money ends up in Maxis hands...
