This brings back memories when I had finally got full plate and was about to buy a plated horse, then I'd be full plate all over. The repair patch hit and I lost all my current gold in one round

There were no forum back in the day and the c-rpg website used to be text on white background. Also the upkeep used to cost alot. So the OP has point.

OP says the repair is 15k . Unless he is dreaming you are recalling the wrong date.. I was not particularly saying that he was playing when the website was text. I just simply said that upkeep used to cost alot.

I remember saving up for like a week to get a bamboo spear and a garbage shield. Discovered I was still useless (did not understand mechanics, never played single player before diving into multiplayer) and just hid with the rest of the peasants behind walls, trying to stay close to our plate knight overlord for that AoE gold.

Then I got a horse and a light lance, and was still terrible because ping to EU server. Good times.
