Furthermore, they swing it like retards. The point of a curved blade is to cut by gliding the blade along a surface, not hammer it in. That's actually closer to a straigth sword "fighting style" than anything else.

A broad sword would offer a longer lasting blade that could be repaired and wouldnt shatter in combat and allows for a shield.

Ill go even further and say that Japan is very lucky it never had to face the armies of Europe. Samurai only ever faught samurai and peasents. The Katana itself was designed to cut down un armoured oponents. Steal from much of asia at this time was so poor that the sword breaker was a common weapon.

The labour intensive way katana were made left the majority of the pupolous with spears, axes and modified farming equipement. They are very lucky that the mongol ships were destroyed by storms twice!. Otherwise It is almost certain that japan would have become just another mongol territory.


Also cold steel will tell you the longsword is better than the katana.

Point is...the katana design is better for cutting, the curved blade, the long hilt for more leverage and power. It's lighter and faster. You can achieve the same result with less effort. Broad sword you have to use too much brute force and get tired quickly. When you're gassed out, you're as good as dead. Bottom line is superior design.

But then again, this is a game forum, most if not all of you ever wield a real sword (not replica) and test anything with it. It makes more sense to pose the question in a sword forum then argue with pretentious know it all fools.

I have an actual arming sword, but its a 1 hander, very light stuff, I know a guy who has a longsword that weight less than a pound.
