Personally,  I  enjoy open maps a lot, not only because I am on a Horse most of the time,  but because of it giving the unique experience of big scale  teamwork lacking on other maps.


is there anything that could make you,  the comon open-map-hater,  enjoy these maps?  If so,  please share.

Well, maybe not a direct change to the map, but one to the players. I know its impossible to let them actually change it. People are stupid, we all know that.

To stop kiting on a far open map, teamplay is the key. there is only 1 kind of teamplay on those maps tho:

- a shieldwall, people hide behind those, that is fine, that is good. but shieldwalls are either camping or theyre moving at the wrong time or even stupidly, so following guy without spears or shields are picked up by enemy cav (IF the cav survived, as they often have their own battle at the beginning on a map).
to stop kiting, there is cav needed that survives till the end, most are often just riskly charging and also blind.

Cav becomes a problem, once there is like a third - half cav in one team, and the other team has like no cavalry. then its a one sided match, but otherwise most open maps are alright.

Blanket ban of all keyboard generals who enjoy trying to force players into standing still at get shot down in shield walls or get lanced in their anus while trying to hide from the bombardment of baddies with their fairy builds.

Maybe if battle weren't a pointless gank fest/who can survive for the longest getting the best kdr builds and maybe if they added objectives open plain might actually be fun...


 
I've never played a server where people split up as much or as often as on EU1.  No wonder range is having a field day.

Personally, i really enjoy open maps, and that's playing as a 2h. One thing that could make these maps a little more fun for the majority, perhaps some sort of class balance, then we wouldn't end up with situations like this...

cav spawning 30 seconds into round, 

everyone having the same movement speed, but implementing a sprint feature (depending on athl),  which causes a 50% wpf drop for the same time that one sprinted (=kiting)

same movement speed also making formation walking (=moving shieldwall)  possible....

how is that for the beginning?

I wouldn't mind players being forced to make a move in order to win the round sooner. The reason you get the stalemates for most of the round is the team who is least organised and pushes will get picked off or drawn into cav fights, or get shot as there is no cover.

So if flags spawned faster or the rounds were shorter it would be in people's interests to make a move sooner. As it is now these maps just end up playing out the same each time, and the first few minutes are generally boring

Rather than cav being used to backstab and pick off stranglers it should work better when sticking together in an organized charge, a system similar to the shield wall system has been suggested before, a certain number of riders together increases their hp / charge but reduces their manoeuvrability.

Maybe battle with 3 different teams? It will be confusionary and unbalanced, but IMO it would add variety in the battlefield.

How bout more balanced maps ?

Or added capture the flag mode ?

Its fair to say at least inf are the weakest class when it comes to open plain maps and later cav spawn or sprint wont change that as inf becomes a moving target practice object thx to lack of cover.

Maps that that provides 0 cover makes up for some really boring games open plain maps are just... without doubt the most biased maps in favour of cav an dont forget the rain of terror that the GK nubs brought with them once their map package was released on eu1 the pop on the server took a shit dive thx to being cav paradise..
