Graphics are good but fighting style is so clumpy.
I wouldn't say the combat is clunky (Or did you really mean clumpy?). It's more that some of the attacks seem a bit... odd, or maybe it's just that many swings suffer the exact inverse problem Warband has. In warband the beginning and end of your swings usually deal less damage and have a better chance of glancing, but it seems in Chiv every single attack frame is dealing about the same amount of damage as the apex of the attack. I can be hugging a guy's face and stab it perfectly fine with a spear, and sometimes at the very end of a thrust just as my guy is pulling the weapon back I will land a hit on someone. It just seems the game is based a whole lot less on momentum in all aspects. It doesn't make the combat bad at all, it just makes it slightly awkward when you get struck by the very last part of a swing when it shouldn't be doing much damage and it fucks you up anyways.

The swings and combat in general are a lot slower than in Warband, but it's also a bit more methodical and less spammy.

Also, archers can move around at just about full speed with a bow drawn from what I can tell, annoying bastards.

EDIT: Also, it's a little difficult to tell how much range your attacks have, it's a matter of learning each weapon I suppose.

3rd person is bad if you are going ranged / throwing, because the aim tend to go a bit off where you will actually hit. Put I only use 3rd person when I'm using shields mostly due to the lack of FOV. when using shield.

My only issue so far with the game is being unable to hold a block. The strike animation if bigger weapons can be 2 seconds long, where block is only active for what feels like .8 seconds

If you really hate 1st person you can play in 3rd, but player with 1st has more advantages. It may sound strange right now, but dueling in 3rd person against 1st is like dueling in Warband in 1st person against 3rd.

nice one, u were really carefull with your swings (except for that axe :D). u prefer 1st over 3rd person when playing?
Well, I haven't played much (only 85 minutes according to Steam), but first person camera seemed easier for me. I noticed that there are 3 different angles for third person camera, which is nice, but it was impossible for me to block.

By the way, I tried to download that little program mentioned in another thread regarding feint/cancel mapped to RMB, but the website was down, and I hate that I can't cancel attacks with the same button for blocking - after 2 years playing cRPG, it just feels natural to block, cancel and feint with the same click. I hope they change it in the near future.

3rd person camera is way way way better in teamfights. blocking in 3rd person is more difficult but not that much more (i have problems blocking men at arms, but other bigger weapons are blocked easily even in 3rd pers). just turn the central cursor that is visible even in 3rd person to the enemy weapon exactly as you do it in 1st person.

Played the first 2 hours woth Dieler and Ujin with some decent results.

I tend to moan about this and that...but overall the game is fun.
Needs some balancing here and there...but...its way better then expected.  :o

Just need Kulin_Ban´s feint change since the default assignment feels wrong.

They need to deal with the spear and mace my old friends though. Its like the game wasn't designed to even block them
